Skin tone is 'red.'

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Digital is new to me. One week with Sony MVC-FD91. An old man trying to catch up with modern technology. The question is with portraits. Pictures taken inside with flash and/or outside with natural light, the picture tone in the LCD is normal when viewed, but when downloaded into the computer and then printed out, the skin tone is 'red.' Setting is 'automatic' all the way. When using portraits, is this when you go to manual settings?

Thanks,

Dennis

Sounds like the printer settings to me. I had similar problems with an HP 722C and got rid of it for an Epson. I also use the FD-91 and have no problem with the Epson Photo-1200 prints.

There are printer utilities that calibrate for color. Look around and see if you can use manual correction.

With the HP I had to resort to changing color/hue in PhotoShop to get an acceptable print. I don't think the fault is in your digicam. Do you have the white balance set?

Without knowing what printer or photo editing software you have, it is hard to advise you.

Anyone else out there got another cure?

What type of system are you on, Mac, PC ? what software are you printing out of?, does the image look decent on the screen but only print "red"? , what printer are you using ? A little more specifics would go a long way towards helping you. The previous post had some good suggestions but maybe we can get more specific if you give us some info...
