Equipment Failure Shuts Off Power

Up to 300 Lubbock Power & Light customers were without power for 14 minutes Monday after an equipment failure at a substation near U.S. Highway 82 and west Loop 289.

Power was restored by 6:20 p.m., LP&L director Paul Thompson said.

He said a device that grounds transformers caused the outage when it failed. Thompson said the devices usually fail while in service but they are easy to replace.

About 40 customers called to report the power failure, Thompson said, and he estimated the substation serves between 250 to 300 homes.
