Back on Track?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Well, it looks as though the BBs is back on track and running normally - phew, what a relief. As usual, I for one, was thrown into a blind panic at the thought of another `sinking`. However, at least I now have plenty of e mail addresses, should we ever lose this site - last time I don`t think I had any.

Last night I decided to get the dreaded ironing over and done with, mostly because the weather forecast is quite good for the rest of the week, so I missed out on the webcam thread. Sounds like it was fascinating stuff! My old computer was not really good enough to cope with webcams, so I just kinda forgot about them. I shall have to have another look at them today.

Had some thoughts about the NUFC/supporters relations thing. Did someone say that the Club are talking about supporter representation? If so, any idea how they will chose the representatives? I can think of several very good candidates on this BBs for a start. In fact, if the Club took the time to trawl one or two of the Club related sites on the internet, they would get a fairly good overall impression of what`s on people`s minds. Does anyone directly involved with NUFC have the password for this site?

Another thing which has been iritating me this week, is their `comments` section on the official site. Firstly it states quite categorically that you will NOT get a reply, then it proceeds to do a section of market research, followed by a sales pitch for various things, and then you get to the comments box. I really feel that it should be a `comments` only thing, without any marketing involved.

Incidentally, have you noticed that there is still no change to the season ticket information on that site! Not very helpful at all. (:o)

Have you tried submitting the feedback page ? the button doesn't do anything, after all the time I spent listing the faults of our club.

I used it once, a long time ago, when I was very much a `rookie` on the internet. I probably didn`t even realise that it wasn`t working! (Yes, I really was that green!) Since then, it is just too annoying to deal with the fact that because I am feeling angry/concerned enough to want to contact them, they see it as an opportunity to do some market research and sales pitching! Doesn`t do anything to improve my mood, or make me feel that they have any intention of taking my `comments` onboard!

I long ago gave up bothering with the feedback page as well. Filled it out a few times when I was all het up about them charging for webcasts. Got canned responses.....months later....from planetonline. And was added to NUFC's catalog mailing list the first time I sent comments. But never got a catalog last year. Didn't feel like answering the marketing questions every time I wanted to send feedback. And also felt like it was pointless when I wasn't even emailing the club directly. Just another "minor" thing they need to pay attention to. *sigh*

It's not since the Communicata days that the club's website has been anywhere near the club, either physically or notionally. The change to planet put the servers from Edinburgh down to Leeds, and the NTL deal means that content updates, colocation and whathaveyou will now most likely be handled by NTL in Luton (somewhere round there). As for email addresses that work, I'm not even slightly suprised; in fact I'd be amazed if a single club employee had direct access to an @nufc.co.uk email address.

AS for your question regarding official club snoopers on the BBS, AFAIK we don't have any. I've never been approached by anyone from the club asking for a password or asking for help in getting proper feedback about the burning issue of the day. You should rest assured that if that does occur, every single member here will know who the club representative is, and who they post as.
