seriously, SERIOUSLY gross photographs

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Gwen's Trailer Trash Forum : One Thread

as sort of a Part Deux to Erika's 'EW! The Grossest Thing Ever' thread, does anyone have links to Truly Grotesque, Horrifying, Disturbing Photographs that they'd like to share with the class?

WARNING. MAY CONTAIN EXTREMELY GRAPHIC IMAGES. May I suggest that everyone give some sort of rating-warning to their url submissions? I mean, there's "Ewwww, gross!" *giggle-squeal*, and then there's Seriously Disturbing And Potentially Nightmare-Inducing.

Here is the picture that spurred me into starting this thread. WARNING: this is one of the most graphic, bloody photos I've ever seen. It is a guy who was (supposedly) on serious drugs and apparently blew off the lower 2/3rds of his face with a gun. He is so high that he is posing for this picture, even in spite of his horrific injuries. *shudder*

if this was me, I would beg to be killed immediately.

I did not look at this picture. I sent the url to my boyfriend and had him look at it. He told me I'd be best off not seeing it. Then he sent the url along to a friend of ours who is a doctor and Master of All Things Photoshop and had him take a look at it. This is his reply:

> Okay, Doctor, how is the person in the picture referenced below
>still breathing? (Assuming the pic isn't faked) Warning - it is
>graphic.

I think it is faked. The blood looks too red. If it isn't he probably has enough blood in his lungs and trachea that he'd be on a vent.

So, that's a doctor's opinion.

As for gross stuff, I would look here. I think some people would find some of the Seriously Disturbing and Potentially Nightmare-Inducing.

One of my friends gave me the link to this place and it scared the bejeezus outta me! http://www.spoontard.com/

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2000

Okay I went and looked at the picture and it is super gross! It must be fake cos a person would be dead with a head wound that severe. Plus with the amount of blood coming off his face he should of died from loss of blood. Nasty, real nasty!!

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2000

Lauren, could you tell us what's at that site? I'm curious to look, but I'm a big chicken. Thanks.

-- Anonymous, July 18, 2000

I hope that pic I sent was faked-- it's far too disturbing if not. But I am happy to report I didn't have bad dreams last night.

I have two more links to share. This first one is directly to a photo-- a large crocodile ate a man, and this photo is of the gutted croc with a (severed) human arm being removed from the croc's belly. It's gross but (imho) not dreadfully shocking.
http://sharon.net/caliban/img/croc-eats-man.jpg

The second link is to a folder full of very, very disturbing photographs. DO NOT LOOK if you are the least bit squeamish about corpses.
http://sharon.net/caliban/img/grotesk/

Was thinking about it yesterday, and I think there are two reasons I can look at this kind of stuff nowadays: first, I was an extreme scaredy-cat growing up-- I wouldn't even go on Disneyland's Haunted Mansion ride until I was 15, and that was with both parents holding my hands. (Honest.) The first "scary" movie I made myself see was Poltergeist, and I was shocked to discover I loved it. Ever since then, it's like scary things haven't gotten to me so much. With the exception of that damned creepy "haunted painting" on eBay awhile back-- that thing gave me chills at night for two days, until I realised it was a fake (yup, took me 2 days to Clue In. *blush*).
Second, I think I have become desensitized, in a way, to violence and horrific images in that when I looked at these gruesome pics yesterday, I think my mind didn't actually believe they were real dead people I was seeing, I think I subconsciously thought, 'Wow, good special effects, that looks pretty real'-- when, as far as I know, the photos in question were real.

Except, hopefully, for that first one I sent. I thought the blood looked awfully bright red too.

ps-- does anyone want to see a QT movie of that Dwyer guy committing suicide on live television? I can fwd a link if so.

-- Anonymous, July 18, 2000

If someone can tell me how to do it, I'll add all the gross pictures my brother sent me. I have a PC. Boy, aren't we all a bunch of sick puppies :)?

-- Anonymous, July 18, 2000

Well, ICK, Kelly. Damn.

I've seen nastier injury/corpse pictures, I admit (sadly), but, er, not by much. Gross. OK, what's the story here? Did the naked people get arrested for desecrating a corpse or what? Where on earth did these photos come from? Foulness.

And I thought *I* found weird crap on the Internet. Bleah.

-- Anonymous, July 18, 2000

Klee, I have some questions: Regarding the guy with no face....is there a link that tells the story on that photo? Is this a hobby?

Also, when Blair Witch was getting ready to come out, I was "alright! I must see that movie!" I was totally psyched. So I went, and what was so horrifying for me was not the visuals but the audio. Anyway, I came away with about a month of psychic damage from that movie, but no nightmares (just daymares!) Well, you would think, I wouldn't make a similar mistake again, but WRONG! I saw that picture link, and went right on over! I couldn't get out of that screen fast enough.

Way to scare the sh_t out of me (it's hard to do.)

-- Anonymous, July 18, 2000

Although I think this is a fabulous idea for a topic, I have to admit to y'all that I'm not looking at any of the pictures. I'm an easily-frightened weenie.

Maybe I'll dig up links to gross sex-fetish crap I've seen. (Most of them are more ridiculous than gross, though.)

-- Anonymous, July 18, 2000

Oh yeah....Klee, did that boy live? I can't imagine....

-- Anonymous, July 18, 2000

I have some gross pictures that my friend emailed me of a snake that ate a human....I can e-mail them to anyone if they want...they are pretty bad......

-- Anonymous, July 18, 2000

I agree that this is an intriguing thread but I too have been to chicken to go check out any of the actual pics. However I'm just dyin' to see any ridiculous sex fetish pics you'd like to link, Gwen!

-- Anonymous, July 19, 2000

I'm so with you, Jill. Whether the pictures are real or not, I can't go over and look at them.
I was nervous about looking at that haunted picture on EBay that Gwen wrote about eons ago.

-- Anonymous, July 19, 2000

Word, Erika, that eBay "haunted painting" creeped me out BIGTIME. In fact, after looking at the thing, I wrote Gwen and begged her to add a warning to her diary entry that had the link. (which she did, being the sweet pea that she is.)
Lisa D, #1) no, I don't know any backstory at all on the gross picture I started this thread with-- it was fwded to me without comment. The friend who sent it told me over the phone that the guy was way high and had been in a motorcycle accident, but I think she was just guessing. #2) I don't know if the guy lived or died (though if the photo is a fake, he probably lived ;) )...and #3) nooooo, I don't have a hobby or habit of viewing/sharing disturbing photographs (honest!). It's just that that one was so extreme, I sort of needed to share it. So I asked Gwen if she thought it was an acceptable topic, and she said go for it...so here we are. I've looked at more heinous pictures this week than I have in my entire Internet "career", no lie.
(whichh brings me to Vicki: yes, we are a bunch of sickos. ;) )
I have a very silly (yet graphic, be warned) sex-fetish photo to share today, it's, like, so ridiculous that it's laughable rather than offensive.

http://sharon.net/caliban/img/gumby.jpg

It's not scary at all, just dumb. :)

On the topic of The Blair Witch Project (which I've seen once in the theater and once on home video whilst tripping on LSD [which was actually highly amusing])-- Blair Witch was on free Showtime the other night, so I watched it. I've become addicted to watching TV with closed-captioning enabled, it's a hoot with some shows (like The Simpsons, which regularly fucks with the captions, slipping funny stuff in) and helpful with others (like ER, which uses lots of indecipherable medical terms), so I was watching Blair Witch with subtitles. And I have to say, it's a LOT less scary that way! Somehow, reading [DISTANT SHOUTING] is way less creepy than actually hearing the shouting, and with closed-captioning, you can see what words/sounds are coming, slightly before they're audible. Plus, most dialogue looks really stupid and inane when you're just reading the words as opposed to hearing the words uttered with emotion. So anyone who likes scary flicks but wouldn't mind being slightly less heebie-jeebied, try closed-captioning. It's fun! :)
Uhh-- that was sort of a ramble there, wunnit. Beg pardon.

-- Anonymous, July 19, 2000

Hey Klee, thanks for the closed captioning tip....ooh, I remember that far off yelling and I'm getting the creeps! Maybe I should try all of my features on the TV (different language, tinker with the screen so it's real light or dark, etc.) although that wouldn't be as good as acid.

I thought I read all of Gwen's diary entries but I don't remember the haunted photo...Is there anywhere I can see it or is it too late? Can you describe the picture?

-- Anonymous, July 19, 2000

klee: That Gumby photo cracked me up.

Lisa: I think it's too late. But I can describe it to you. It was a horrid painting of a little boy sitting on a stoop with a sullen, murderous look on his face. There was also a little girl standing near him who was actually a doll or something, because people said she had a key in her back. And people said there were disembodied hands behind glass somewhere in the background, but I didn't see those because the little boy's ugly face was more than enough for me.

Oh, and the painting was supposed to be haunted, too. But I don't believe that.

-- Anonymous, July 19, 2000

Perhaps "Pokey" would have been more apt...

-- Anonymous, July 20, 2000

ew gross! more more!

-- Anonymous, July 20, 2000

right, and the boy's eyes were empty, blank white, which is what skeeved me so. He looked cold and inhuman. It was really unsettling, especially later that night (after viewing it) when I was home alone and had turned out the lights. The seller added to the eerieness by writing this dramatic copy to go with the listing, talking about being "not responsible for any unnatural occurences that may occur in your home if you bring this painting into it" and stuff like that. They also included some alleged infrared night photography that purportedly showed the images in the painting in motion during the night.
Being the naive dumbass that I am (much of the time), I was willing to believe it, initially, and was thoroughly Freaked, until I thought about it a bit more. The seller claimed to be selling the painting because he/she was afraid to have it in his/her house, and wanted to be rid of it quickly. It occurred to me that if I had a painting I wanted to ditch, I'd either throw it in a Dumpster or give it to Goodwill. I mean really, wouldn't that be a hell of a lot quicker than taking digital photographs (not to mention the infrared ones), listing the painting, writing all the copy (and there was a LOT of text in the listing, what with the myriad warnings and stuff), uploading the photos, and then waiting a week or more for the danged auction to end, and THEN having to box and ship the thing to a buyer-- after waiting for payment to arrive and clear?

Please.

But check it out, the thing sold for over a thousand dollars. I went back to look, out of curiosity, after the auction had ended (and I DIDN'T look at the pics that second time, fwiw, only the text). So the seller had the last laugh, I suppose.

PS-- Lisa D, the best part about watching Blair Witch whilst tripping was that my friend and I realised it would have been really hilarious if the filmmakers had used Sinatra's song "That's Life" over the end credits. :) A damn fine idea, if I may preen for a moment. *snicker*

-- Anonymous, July 20, 2000

Oh man, that painting scared the living fuck out of me. I'm not sure I believe it's haunted, but it's certainly creepy. I remember that the night I looked at it, about half an hour after I'd logged off, my mother came into my room and said she was going out for dinner with her SO (this was just after dark). I said, "You're going out? You didn't tell me you were going out." She said, "So? I don't have to ask your permission." I then begged, "Please, mum, don't leave me here. It's going to GET ME! The painting's going to GET ME!" Then she laughed at me and left. I tell you, I had the TV on full volume and every light in the house on until she got home. Even then, I had trouble getting to sleep. The pathetic thing is that I'm 21 years old. The first thing I thought when I saw that horrid picture was that Jeffrey Dahmer must have posed for the portrait as a young 'un. I've never seen such a chilling expression on a child's face.

-- Anonymous, July 20, 2000

By far the sickest photos I have ever seen - and these are seriously, seriously, sick, folks - are the Beckowitz murder photos at portalofevil.com (under galleries of evil). If anyone doesn't know the story - a guy and his girlfriend murdered I believe the girl's husband and took pictures of themselves with the mutilated body. 100% real and I wish I'd never seen them.

-- Anonymous, July 20, 2000

You know what is even scarier, that woman has been out of jail for some time. She got less time for testifying against the boyfriend. You know the usual "I didn't know what I was doing, I was abused, he made me...." It sure looks like she knows what she's doing, that is one of the most evil things I've witnessed.

-- Anonymous, July 20, 2000

I generally have a low tolerance for really gross pics, and definitely avoid the dead people ones. My "favorite" gross pic is this one, of an arm that was ripped off in a tug-of-war. Very gross, but not too gross. Or maybe just a little too gross. Whatever. I guess that's a matter of opinion.

Hey buddy, could you please lend a hand?

-- Anonymous, July 20, 2000

The photo at URL http://www.armory.com/~taz/123/motorcycle.jpg is clearly *AUTHENTIC*.

For a moment, look at the background: the victim is surrounded by people in ER scrub attire, with wall fixtures and drapes characteristic of this setting.

He has been the recipient of prior medical traetmnent (probably EMT, given the location of the visible IV and the type of B/P cuff on his right arm.) There is no oxygen delivery apparatus visible, but this might have been removed monentarily to facilitate the taking of the photograph (photographing injuries is very common in ERs, particularly by surigical specialists)

The wound itself appears to be a double-barrel shotgun wound to the lower anterior face with the blast in an upward direction, and the barrel twisted slightly outward on the left---you'll notice the left forehead has multiple pellet injuries with the left eye spared, while the right wound is deeper, with globe, orbital &/or extra-occular muscle invovement.

the main brunt of the blast was absorbed by the lower face, with extensive avulsion of the mandible, maxilla, maxillary sinuses, and nose. the tongue, soft palate, uvula and tonsillar pillars are clearly seen. The tongue, BTW, has at least four exit wounds visible.

the victim is leaning forward supported in part on axillary rolls to keep the soft tissues of his upper airway from falling back and obstructing his glottis. the color of the blood, which has largely congealed, is normal---despite what another poster believes.

I don't know why the URL of this pic says "motorcycle"; every time i try to go there i get "site not available". Maybe someone else can fill us in on that mystery....

-- Anonymous, July 21, 2000

WOW, that was fascinating to read, PsyberZombie! I love technical medical descriptions of stuff (maybe why I like watching ER with closed-captioning enabled). Like I said before, I'd be somewhat relieved if the photo turned out to be a fake, because the subject's injuries are so horrific and extreme, but I'm not qualified to say whether the pic is or isn't authentic, so I appreciate your (obviously informed) opinion and post.

-- Anonymous, July 21, 2000

After i posted that last one, i remembered a prominent ENT surgeon lives in our neighborhood. She's been in practice over 20 yrs. Her opinion: Your observations are very astute, PZ. I've seen several injuries like this, although none 'quite' so horrible. The scenario is always the same: the suicidal person chooses a rifle or shotgun, but rather than put it in the mouth and aiming posteriorly, they place the barrel under the chin. The barrel is too long to work the trigger like this, so they lean the head *way back*, moving the brain out of the line of fire.

Because the brain isn't hit, they stay conscious and dont drown in their own blood. After enough blood loss, the blood pressure drops, the flow slows, and the blood congeals.

Next time, he should either use his toe to fire the weapon, or choose an easier method....

+++++++Thanks, Doc !!

Also, I've been meaning to ask, and this would be the right forum for it-- there used to be a police/coroner's photo of Kurt Cobain, post suicide, online; it was one of the very first things I ever saw after getting www access. The original url is long gone, of course, but surely more than one person downloaded it and has it somewhere. Does anyone know where it can be found? It was a hell of a photo, barely recognisable. It looked like ratatouille.

-- Anonymous, July 21, 2000

PZ, thanks for shedding so much light on that pic! (not literally, thankfully ;) ) I gotta tell my friend (the one who sent it to me) all this info.

Re: the Beckowitz murder photos at www.portalofevil.com-- those are the pics I linked to, above, in the "grotesk" url. I had no idea they were well-known, but they creeped me out enormously, and for the same reason-- not so much the content, but the knowledge that there are people out there who would take PHOTOS of such a sickening scene...and to hear the woman's OUT now, fuck! That is seriously frightening. :( (as is that portalofevil site. *shudder*)

Y'all are scaring me in my own forum topic! ;) Eeeek! [insert klee running to the Security Blankets? forum for solace]

Sure Lillipilli :) If you click the link, I swear, there are no pictures on the main page! Basically, its a collection of ALL kinds of really bizzare stuff...I cant explain it any better than that!

-- Anonymous, July 21, 2000

I can't look at Gicky Pictures either... just the suggestion of them is enough to squick me.

Someone mentioned the picture of the snake that supposedly chowed a human: that one's a fake, too. My brother the snake expert 'splained the nuances, including the fact that snakes rarely if ever eat anything that large because after a meal that size, they can't move, and are more vulnerable to attack themselves. He also pointed out that the person the snake supposedly "ate" was positioned the wrong way... a snake wouldn't eat something (I think, because I didn't look at the picture) headfirst... or was it feet-first? At any rate, based on that, he's convinced the photo is staged and some guy crawled there after the snake had been cut open, thassall....

This roach photo

was sent to me by Amber T last month. Amber, I hope you don't mind me sharing it with the class.

-- Anonymous, July 25, 2000

Ugh, I had forgotten about that thing. Truly disgusting. Makes you want to bite into a juicy red tomato, don't it?

-- Anonymous, July 25, 2000

Amber, I've eaten lots more tomatoes since seeing the beauty of that work of art. Tons of 'em!

Okay, let me backstab Klee by posting the link she just emailed me:

homemade Duran Duran t-shirt on sale at eBay

Y'all hurry and get your bids in!

-- Anonymous, July 28, 2000

For all the seriously disgusting stuff you'd ever not want to see, I have to suggest Consumption Junction.

It ranges from the harmlessly funny to the seriously grotesque. One nice feature is that they rate all the photos/movies/soundbites.

-- Anonymous, August 13, 2000

Against my better judgement, I looked at the roach photo.

Happily, the fact that they are white with little painted red crosses on their backs means they don't scare me! Hooray!

So now all I need to do when confronted by a roach--since I'm phobic--is spray paint him or her another color. Cool. Who knew?

Then I can smash 'em without spazzing. Awesome.

it was cool

for some seriously nasty pictures in a fun-for-all! format, check out slipknot.com, and click on the little skull. it's about half-way down the page, and it's on the right side.

i'm looking for the picture of kurt cobain taken by the seattle police department when he was found dead... anyone know where this can be found?

-- Anonymous, December 10, 2000

Ya know what's even more frightening? I've known of those Beckowitz pictures for years and just recently discovered that the guy who was murdered was the father of a guy I've known since he was 2 years old. Talk about a grandiose mindfuck.

-- Anonymous, December 24, 2000

just surfed on in here and noted that you are looking for some more links. check these two out: http://www.stl-online.net/thc/abpg/index.html-ssi http://www.dreaeuh/abpg/movies.html the first one has a few other links and contains mostly gruesome stuff, whilst the second is mostly vids ranging from daft to gross, enjoy.

I rented and watched all the faces of death in my early teens in a 2 day marathon with my friends. Nothing on those tapes bothered me. I watched a few other similar tapes with no effect either. I don't know what the interest in the films was. Just part of the dark nature i had carried at that time in my life. I watched a tape of executions however and i nearly lost my stomach and had to turn the tape off, and pray to a god i don't belive in. I watched beheadings, drawn and quartering, gunshots, eletric chair, those weren't that bad. I don't remember which tape it was, but this african guy was thrown to the ground and shot in the face. His body jerked and his mouth quivered and he kept trying to talk, even after he was dead the body twitched and spassed out for awhile. This was about 1/2 hour into the tape. The scene that go to me was footage of of a man arrested for stealing (in the midle east i think). he was tied to posts in the ground. A big guy walks over and just cuts his hand off at the wrist then he cut his foot off at the ankle. The guy did it so quick and easily that it was like he was cutting chicken. The looks and screams off that man were terrible. I couldn't watch anymore. I can handle looking at a corpse. But mutilations are horrible. It reminds me that my body is flesh, soft and yielding. Bringing to mind the inevitable occurance of death and decay, mortality and it's finality. Since then i've tried to convince myself that i am not the flesh. This is merely my vessel. A fragile vessel needing to be taken care of.

The photo of the guy with the terrific facial wound is one of the nastiest photos i have ever seen. It gets under my skin, and it is hard to not think about it sometimes. I seen the picture months ago on someone elses computer. I came to this link looking for the photo of Kurt Cobain. Kurt was one of my idols in a way you can say. I don't really know why i want to see it but i do. I don't think Kurt killed himself. I think Courtney had him done in she gained millions of dollars and if he had divorced her as was his intent she wouldn't have gotten shit !

Don't know why i posted all this but who really cares...

-- Anonymous, January 21, 2001

i am also looking for the Kurt Cobain police photos... so if anyone has them or the link, PLEASE post it here, or send it to me...

No submission, just writing to say that none of this "sick" stuff bothers me in the least... I search the www for stuff like this to satisfy me dark urges. I got a kick out of the dude with his face blown off...bet he woke up with a headache!! LOL
