Sergen Yalcin

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

The Fiver have us linked with Sergen Yalcin, Galatasaray midfielder, with a bid quoted as 3.1 million. Turkish rivals Gaziantepspor are supposedly also after him with but Galatasary want 4.1 million.

Wasn't he the one with the 'tash for the Turks in the European Championship? If memory serves me correct he looked skilful but has a bit of a colourful reputation off the pitch (a night out with him and YKD could be fun). Could be bollox of course but given Robsons track record on buying British.......well I wouldn't be suprised at all.

NEWCASTLE AGREE SERGEN FEE
by Patrick Goss

SERGEN YALCIN took a step closer to a move to Newcastle United, after the Turkish ace's club admitted they had agreed a fee for the Euro 2000 star.

Sergen, who currently plays his football in his native Turkey with Siirtjetpaspor, was recommended to Magpies boss Bobby Robson by chief scout Gordon Milne and could now be the subject of a £2.5 million swoop from the North East club.

Siirtjetpaspor chairman Takibbin Yarayan said: "We have reached an agreement on the transfer after a meeting with Newcastle officials."

The 27-year-old midfielder started Turkey's opening game against Italy, but was only used as a substitute in the remaining games and vented his frustration on departing national coach Mustapha Denizli by slamming his tactics.

Don't like the sound of this last bit. Being Turkish is one thing but being a prat like this is quite another.
