I don't know how I ended up here really but with the Internet I guess we all live in a "global village". Anyway, I'm a student from downunder, Melbourne, Australia and perhaps this will be of interest to both members and visitors to your community.

I'm doing a research project on the use of online agreements. These are agreements that you always seem to come across when surfing the net. My theory is that most people just click "I Accept" without reading the terms and conditions of these agreements and the problem with that is that you might be accepting a whole lot more than you bargained for! Some of you may have seen Scott Adams' Dilbert cartoon strip in which Dilbert begins by saying

"I didn't read all of the shrink-wrap license agreement on my new software until I opened it. Apparently I agreed to spend the rest of my life as a towel boy in Bill Gates' new mansion."

And Dogbert says, "Call your lawyer."

And Dilbert replies, "It's too late. He opened the software yesterday."

This is very apt. Please take five minutes and participate in my simple questionnaire at http://seven.bf.rmit.edu.au/clickwrap and self assess your understanding of some of the issues surrounding the use of online agreements and at the same time you'll see some of the things that you might be agreeing to and might also unknowingly end up getting!

By doing the questionnaire you will also help me in gathering research data on the general awareness, understanding and attitude to these agreements. With the support of the Internet community, hopefully this research will provide data that may be useful in convincing legislators to improve the consumer protection laws on the Internet.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

P.S. If this is totally off topic then please do excuse my intrusion.
