Sony DSC-S70 vs. Fujifilm Finepix 4700 (maybe vs. 990)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hello! I've bee researching the Net for quite a bit now and finally have decided to take a dive into the world of digi-photography. These are the cameras that I am considering:

-Sony DSC-S70 -Fuji Finepix 4700 -Nikon CP-990 -Canon S100

I know that the 990 is quite "different" from the other ones, but it seems to be quite "nice" as a camera and for someone who wants to develop more into usage of the manual controls, I believe that this will aid in that.

As for the other cameras, I am totally split between the 4700 and the S70. S70 has the best consumer lens on the market/good batteries and the 4700 has speed/looks. Picturewise, I do not know which one, as they have pretty good results on both.

The S100 seems to be off my list now, but it is so because it seems to suffer from some problems like the S20. Am I right?

Like I said before, the 990 is quite out of the other cameras' league right now, but I am considering because of its reputation.

Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Daniel

P.S. Shots will probably occur in outdoors as well as indoors. However, I will hit the slopes once in awhile with camera in tow. These shots on the mountain will probably be taken at night, so I don't know how these factors will change the final decision.

I researched digital cam's for about three months before I settled onto the DSC-S70, My choices ranged from Canon to Olympus even Toshiba @ the end of the day I found what really counts is forget about all the features, what counts

1.) is a crisp picture no less the 3.0 megapixel 2.) excellent battery life (if you enjoy waiting for the right moment you want to keep that camera ON !!) 3.) Good lense technology 4.) @ least 3x optical(Min)

DONT BE IMPRESSED BY A CAMERA's DIGITAL ZOOM ABLITY AS YOU LOOSE QUALITY.

Regards,

Michael.
