Mpenza to Rangers

JUST SPOTTED THIS IN TOMORROWS SUNDAY EXPRESS:

Rangers are ready to break the Scottish transfer record to sign Belgian striker Emile Mpenza next week, and their bid for the Euro 2000 star has become all the more important as Michael Mols requires further surgery.

Manager Dick Advocaat revealed last night that Rangers have tabled a bid, thought to be #6.5million, for the 21-year-old international who joined Schalke 04 last October from Standard Liege.

The German club are trying to squeeze more money out of Rangers for the goal grabber but Advocaat has insisted they will not raise their offer.

He would like to have Mpenza in place by this week, especially as Mols will be unable to return to the team for another four to six weeks following a tidy-up operation on his left knee.

Advocaat said: "The club has spoken with Schalke about the player and there is a possibility of getting him but the German club is asking for too much money.

"We have made an offer and we will not increase it, so it is up to them if they accept it or not.

How many sodding forwards do Lucifer's XI want?!

Check out sqad, international cover in majority of positions, Advocaat as opposed to YBR seems a advocate (ouch) of pace up front Moles, M`Penza, Dodds, Johan Johansenn, Kanchelskis etc etc

Word is Mols needs another "exploratory operation" on his knee and will be out for another two months at least, so I guess the Forces of Darkness want another striker in reserve. Shame he isn't coming our way as we could with more pace up front and Mpenza is lightening fast.

(hello one and all, good to see so many familiar "faces" again)

Hi Stevo, you've been sorely missed (there are a load of expired threads to that effect - I'm not just being nice!). I hope this isn't a fleeting visit. Is it safe to walk aroun in Holland yet, what with Stam's ball still not having come back to Earth yet? ;-)

Big welcome back Stevo. Great to hear from you again - as Softie has indicated you absence has been frequently mentioned and regretted. Stick around mate.
