resize in the camera

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hello ,

My question is very simple Let's say you have a digital camera with a 2048x1536 CCD but you use the 1024x768 mode when you take a picture . Does the camera use the full extent of the CCD and resize the data to give a 1024x768 image , or does the camera use only an undersampling of the CCD pixels ? an internal resize would give much better results than just a sampling.

Maybe it varies from camera to camera , maybe there are different modes that allow you to choose between different behaviors . But you don't seem to mention it in your reviews, and I think it is a very important feature , since it saves a lot of card memory and keeps a rather good level of visual information .

I know it is always possible to take a 2048x1536 image and resize it afterwards either in the camera or in any image processing package on a PC , but it is not very flexible.

I cannot test it myself ,because my wife went on vacation with our digital camera.

Thank you in advance for your answer

PS: your web-site is great , but I don't understand why you don't review epson cameras ?
