Battery useage, Tiff vs compressed jpeg

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Is there an appreciable difference in battery drain between taking 100 Tiff images versus more compressed jpeg's?

Bill,

The write current of a memory card, or even a Microdrive, is pretty insignificant when compared to motor drives (focus and lens zoom), LCD panels, and the other electronics in a digital camera. Not only is the current draw quite small, but the total time spent writing files, even large TIFF files, is a very small portion of the total time the camera is used during each battery life. Don't let the size of the files worry you about battery life. Try to reduce the use of these other parts of the camera to have a real impact on the battery.
