Hope for farms withering By Kit Miniclier Denver Post Staff Writer

July 13, 2000 - Don't let the shake, rattle and roll of those dark thunderclouds fool you.

Colorado is in the middle of a drought and the fire danger along the Front Range is high, state officials agreed Wednesday.

About two dozen counties, compared to an annual average of perhaps four, have sought or plan to seek federal drought disaster relief, Jim Miller of the Colorado Department of Agriculture told the monthly meeting of the Colorado Flood and Drought Task Force.

The task force, composed of representatives from state and federal agencies, was also told that when Colorado's traditional summer heavy-rain season does get fully cranked up, flash flooding may be worse than normal.
