At the risk of stating the INCREDIBLY obvious, and after having driven cross-country in a moving truck just recently, aren't the first set of photos of a WEIGH STATION (aka, CHECK STATION)?? And the second set of photos looks to me like it USED to be a weigh station but has since been closed (came across a number of those while driving cross-country).

Duh.

Scary! (not the checkpoints, the paranoiacs)

cin, the funniest thing while driving out here in that truck was that I really had no idea how much the whole thing "weighed" (one rental agent told me I didn't have to stop, but my brother [the truck driver] said it was best to stop and be sure). So at the first weigh station, I decided to stop.

I don't think my "truck" even registered on the scale (the sign kept flashing "move onto the scale" and I'm sitting in the truck *yelling* "I AM ON THE SCALE!!").

I swear, I could hear the guys in the building laughing their butts off. I just bypassed them after that. (You have to picture one of the smallest moving trucks (driven by *me*), sandwiched in between the largest semis you've ever seen. Even *I* was laughing my butt off. I thought, hey, at least I gave them something to laugh at; you have to figure that's one of the most boring jobs.....)

haha Patricia, you poor thing. Although they laughed at you, those drivers take care of each other out on that road. On my way back from Florida a few years back, one came to my aid. He had me follow his big rig out of a flash flood/storm coming through Texas. There was absolutely no visibility. I couldn't see where I was going, so I just pulled over. He stopped and told me that it wasn't safe to sit there. I was ever so grateful we got out of that alive. The driver wanted me to pull over at the next stop I guess to talk to him, but I was so afraid. It was only my 4 year-old and I. So I just kept going. I wish now that I had stopped to thank him.
