Bumper crops forecast for corn, soybeans

07/13/2000

Bloomberg News Service

WASHINGTON U.S. farmers will harvest the second-largest corn crop ever and a record soybean crop this year, adding to a grain glut that's keeping prices depressed and postponing economic recovery in agriculture even as it's providing a break for consumers at the grocery store.

Now hold on. Nobody is claiming that either plants or weather is noncompliant.

But there won't *be* any crop because the suppliers of hybrid seeds won't survive. And even if they do survive, the farming equipment is noncompliant and won't operate. And even if it does operate, the railroads have been PROVED to be hosed.

And even if we suspend all disbelief and assume ALL these will work, the retail grocers won't be able to sell to you because both their cash registers and their payroll systems will fail. But that won't matter since there won't be any power, or the traffic lights will be all screwed up, and the employees will all be defending their homes from the marauders and won't show.

You just don't Get It, do you? Everything is connected to everything else, so if anything breaks, it ALL breaks. Can't you SEE that? I can only feel sorry for your children.

Uh, that was last year? Oh well, y2k is boring. We've moved on. Can't you SEE that? Sheesh.

. . .There is, of course, some finite probability that all of these events will occur without any problems; but there's also a finite probability that pigs will learn to fly. . .

Flint/CPR, it is your lucky day, because you have felt no effects. True, some kind of fallouts (economic) are still a happening, from whatever. I witnessed it first hand, when I had to face multiple employees this week, and tell them they had no jobs. It is an economic thing. A blunder of happenings. I referred them to the one Charity Agency, I thought could give them some temporary assistance. Keep your eyes wide open, or wide shut.
