Geordies aren't hooligans.

I can't type out the whole article, but in our EPL weekly paper there's an article on the hooliganism and the societal cuases and effects of british hooliganism. Anyway in the article it highlights one of the main reasons for the british people who take part in the mob hooligan acts is a lack of national, and consequently self, identity, coupled with a general loss of national masculinity on behalf of the british male. Much of the article is derived from an interview with Rogan Taylor (our public relations lad).

He goes on to say that the Irish and Scotish (through the Tarten Army) traveling fans have a good rep. in europe and for the large extent and do not have a large hooligan problem. (O.K. maybe against the Brits they do). Rogan goes on to say this largely due to the fact these nations have a strong sense of national identity built upon centuries of withstanding the English hammer.

He then goes onto say similarly the Geordies and Scouser have been on the recieving end of the english hammer and have their own sense of national identity and generally as a rule these travelling fans are well behaved following their teams around europe.

There we have it, Geordies are a nation to themselves, with their own singular identity. And all from the mouth of Rogan Taylor.

Following hard on the heels of this is a report today of a league table of known trouble-makers with (shock! horror!) Leeds and Chelsea at the top and Stoke City in third. Whether this means that they really have more hooligans or just that they have more supporters stupid enough to get caught remains to be seen.

Scousers with no reputation for violence abroad? I am sure lots of the bereaved families of Juventus fans will be fascinated to read this

And the Mackems were the third worst offenders in the PL, with 18 known hooligans who are banned. It's a bit unfair, it's not their fault that they can't sit still without thowing their banana skins at everyone.
