How come no one likes Cleo?

What's the deal? I don't think she is that bad. I bear with her. She is certainly not my fave but I want to know why other people don't like her.

i didnt like her when she was telling carter about a patient who was diabetic....then i didnt think she showed compassion for the whole carter/lucy situation. i mean she had to have known the elizabeth was gonna saty with lucy or something.she didnt have the time to do an operation on another patient, anyway.then she was quiet jealous of the talks between peter and liz.anyway she was bugging me all along.

Stick around here long enough and you'll hear PLENTY about why we don't like Cleo, LOL! For the most part, we think her acting is bad, she's very wooden, never changes her facial expression, etc. Also, we're fairly grossed out by her make-out sessions with Peter. (Yuck.) And that time she got Peter to do unnecessary surgery on a kid, after Elizabeth had told her it wasn't necessary--that brought her WAY down in a lot of people's eyes. Basically getting special favors from her boyfriend so she could get around the person in authority, that pissed a lot of people off. (Including me...grrrr.) And the time she chewed out Carter for trying to help the man whose kid had diabetes...The list goes on and on.

I noticed she didn't have any facial expressions in May Day (Which by the way is now my fave episode of all time because Noah as always was brilliant and we saw a darker side to him). Why is she jealous of liz and Peter, liz is with Mark. Hmmmmmmm.

Why do we hate Cleo? Let me count the reasons....

1) The acting is well, wooden

2) She's really bad table manners

3) She only exsists cause Peter needed a love interest

4) Her chemistry with Peter is pathetic and the 'make out' sessions makes me want to throw up

5) She shows little compassion to patients

I could go on, but the woman isn't worth it.

I don't HATE Cleo -- I just don't like her as much as all the other characters on the show. I really want to give her a chance, but TPTB have made it quite hard to like her. They seemed to have just brought her character on as a love interest for Peter, threw them together with no set-up whatsoever (Eriq and Michael have NO chemistry!) and expected us to accept it. I think Cleo's character is supposed to be somewhat mysterious and maybe we will learn more about her next season (according to Michael Michelle on the Rosie O'Donnell show she is coming back). As for the diabetic kid I think she was right on that issue, and going behind Liz's back to get surgery for that person, well, she is not the only one who has done something like that. I just really think they need to give us more of a reason to like her (letting us learn more about her) and get her away from Dr. Benton! Maybe Michael Michelle will loosen up a bit too after being on the show for one season now (she said on the Rosie show that learning the medical terms was quite hard and she was nervous and stuff...maybe now she'll be more comfy -- we can only hope!!).

Do you REALLY want to know why I don't like her? She shows no compassion. Like someone said earlier she didn't even care that Liz was trying to save Lucy's life. I kept yelling at the tv screen going "she's trying to save Lucy's life you idiot!" I am surprised that they only had 4 surgeons there that night. But that's another topic which I'm surprised noone has ever brought up. She wouldn't know compassion if it bit her on the butt. She makes Ramano look good compared to her. And she's jealous of anyone talking to Peter. Basically she's a stuck-up, self-centered, snobby little bi**h! That's why I hate her!

I still think Cleo was needlessly unfeeling about the diabetic kid, especially the first time around. The father COULD NOT AFFORD all the special things she said the kid needed. What could he do? She wasn't even sympathetic towards the father's situation, at all. I can understand she didn't want to take the fall when the father turned out to be irresponsible the second time, and she realized that Carter had lied to help the man, but she has NO people skills. And for a pediatrician, that's just not good.

i don't understand why people are saying cleo was not compassionate because she didn't care that liz was trying to save lucy's life. cleo brought a patient up to surgery and Dr. Anspaugh was paged. Benton and anspaugh were in surgery with carter still so they asked for corday to be paged. at the time lucy was out of surgery...dr. corday was keeping an eye on her. she went to leave, lucy took a turn for the worst, liz stayed. she was never cursing at liz...more at benton because he came and left. while i don't like cleo, i understand her frusttrations here even while i understand how benton didn't want to leave carter. i don't think this is a fair accusation. carter and lucy were hurt, yes, but so was the other man and he needed surgery as well.

Yes, that business i BSMH was Benton's fault. I can understand that he wanted to stay with Carter, but Anspaugh was taking very good care of him and Benton was needed elsewhere. He had no business chewing Cleo out for proceeding without him--he basically left her out in the cold that time. Of course, they weren't dating then...

But for the most part, I still can't stand her. Cleo hasn't done much of anything that makes her seem like a good doctor to me. She doesn't stand out, except as being annoying. I really don't think she has any redeeming qualities. But Eriq LaSalle specifically requested an African-American love interest for his character, so I guess she's there for the long haul. *sigh*

I also don't understand why you all hate Cleo/Micheal Michele so much. She isn't my *favorite*, but I really don't mind her. I think that Michael Michele is a very good actress- she has said in interviews that that is just the way Cleo Finch is written and she has to play it. I loved her in "Great Expectations" when she delivered Tess (but maybe that's because everyone was so happy there) and I liked her in the episode ("Abby Road," I think) when she played basketball outside with Mark. She was also good with the children whose parents died in "BSMH." I don't mind her too much with Peter, they certainly look good together. lol!

And, though this has nothing to do with Cleo, I love Mark and Elizabeth together. They have a stable, mature relationship that even my two favorite soul mates of all time (Doug and Carol, of course) never really had. They had the passion and the fariy tale kind of true love, but they weren't the most stable people in the world.

This discussion is getting pretty old by now. There have been so many threads about Cleo, and they are still available to read if you spend a little time looking. Anyway, I don't like her for all the above reasons, but I like Deb Chen even less. Deb and Abby are definitely my least favorite characters right now.

i agree with cammie! i was also yelling at the screen! :)

-- rachel (thehilfigergirl@aol.com), July 13, 2000.

Ouch! Man, you know someone is bad if Ramano actually looks good! Good one Andie! That was so funny!

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), July 13, 2000.

I like Ramano. He may be mean but he is cool. He is just doing his job. I didn't like him when he was mean to Liz but other than that I like Ramano.

-- Nicole (pizza_cats@hotmail.com), July 14, 2000.

I'm with Nicole--Romano is cool. I think he's hilarious, even when he's being a pri**. He's the man you love to hate. Cleo on the other hand, I just hate.

-- Cecelia (evilstoat@hotmail.com), July 14, 2000.

Cleo has no emotion to her. She's carries a "holier than thou" air about her. She wants everyone to like her. Romano, on the other hand, has a "holier than thou" air about him too, but he doesn't really care if people like him or not. I think that's why I like Romano (most of the time), but I don't like Cleo (all the time). She tries too hard and Romano doesn't try at all.

What I found when Cleo first came on is that I really, really hated her. Her bad acting and lack of compassion irked me. After awhile, though, I stopped listening to all the negative things, and just kidna let her be. And I found taht she's not THAT bad. She certainly isn't near my favorite character, but I don't hate her much if I just let her be the person she's supposed to be. ALTHOUGH maybe she could use some acting lessons...
