The first matchday meet up thread of the new (pre) season!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Still can't quite believe I'll be seeing the lads in action in just over week. Just finished watching the Revs getting demolised by Columbus Crew...at Crew Stadium. Not sure if the Toon need to worry too much, the Crew are missing their top striker and the Revs gave new meaning to cr@p tonight. More importantly the pitch is in fantastic condition and there was noticeable singing from the home crowd, nothing the Toon Army Columbus platoon can't drown out, I'm sure!

Anyway, whee's gannin? Which games? I'm getting to DC next Thurs evening, going to the party at the Rock on Friday night (free Broon while the donated barrels last! get there early!), not sure yet what I'm doing Saturday afternoon(after hangover recovery and before the game). Am I a little excited? Just a bit!! :-D

Also, if anyone is still in need of hotel space in DC, I got a fantastic rate on the Quality Inn Hotel in Arlington(just across the river from DC) through: http://www.budgethotels.com/
$60/night for up to 3 people in the room, free parking, a couple blocks from the Metro.

It looks like me, sting and min won't be making it over now.....prices started to get a bit high and it started conflicting with work for me which kinda buggered it up for the two of them cos they can't have a good time without me you see ;))

Turns out my manager is trying to get me a trip over to DC next week - fingers crossed.
The Rock on Friday night followed by Camelot???
Flights from NY to DC aren't that expensive (although you might need to fly to Baltimore).

Take care lads - its a canny distance from Baltimore Airport to DC. About a 45-50 minute taxi ride in reasonable traffic, and costs about $60.
I'm not sure about public transport - there are probably buses.

How long is the DC - New York drive ? Was gonna do it the morning of the match , will i miss much the night before ?

-- Anonymous, July 13, 2000

If my memory serves me right Sting, it's about 250 miles.
Speed limits are generally around 65mph these days, so it's probably a 5 hour drive with a p-stop.

f me ! rethink there then : - )

-- Anonymous, July 13, 2000

How long and how much is the train then ? : - )

-- Anonymous, July 13, 2000

try www.amtrak.com - looked up and it's $120 single on train - takes 3 hours.
also try
American Airlines
United ehem Airlines
and South West Airlines - cheap but Baltimore comes into the equation, and you fly from Islip (Long Island - nice Ice Teas!) and not JFK or LGA.
Happy Hunting!

My waht an active lot you all are today! So, Sting....you definitely need 4 tickets for the game? Email Mark Harper at Mark.HARPER@delusw.cec.eu.int He's been handling all the Toon Army section tickets. Tell him Allison sent you. I'm probably going to have 1 spare, but won't know for sure until early next week.

If you can make it for Friday night, the Rock thing sounds promising. All the Geordies we can round up plus various other local Brits. An invitation has also been extended to Bobby and the boys, but I'd be surprised if he allows anyone out the night before a game. ;-)

How long and how much is the train then ? Sorry, missed that question. I believe the train has 6 cars, not sure of the exact dimensions..but pretty long, I'd guess. And how much? Well...a few million at leaast!

Too hot and humid for a coat, I'm already out the door!

Used the train from NYC to Washington 3 months ago. Very somooth, around 3 hrs if I remember, but buggar all to see out of the window. Don't go expecting great countryside, enormous rivers and high mountains (what do expect to see from an East Coast train - heards of wilderbeasts sweeping majestically...)

-- Anonymous, July 13, 2000

Yup were gonna fly from NYC on the Friday i think , so ill be at the rock , looks like only 2 tickets required now but dunno : - )

-- Anonymous, July 13, 2000

Sting, when you've got your definites, email me at amenjivar@aol.com If my friend can't get her flights sorted, I'll also have a spare admission to the Rock ($5 in advance, $10 at the door) in addition to the game ticket.
