G'u'ivar'c'h is back and wants Anelka's spot on the national team!!! Funny stuff (I was looking for a joke thread actually)

From onefootball.com:

Remember Stephane Guivarc'h, the hapless French forward from the 1998 World Cup? Remember how, after being top scorer in France in 1997 and 1998, he went to Newcastle United and became renown for fluffing chances? Remember how he then went to Rangers, and looked little better? Well, he's back, and this time he's banging them in in the Europe's least meaningful competition. A brace at home to Stabaek might not have set many pulses racing, but the Auxerre striker believes this could be the start of great things, and already he's talking about a return to the national side.

France, of course, are hardly bereft of striking talent, with Thierry Henry, Sylvain Wiltord, David Trezeguet and Nicolas Anelka all looking genuinely world-class, but Guivarc'h isn't daunted.

"It's going to be hard," he said, demonstrating an impressive flair for understatement. "All the French forwards scored during Euro 2000, except Anelka. It is his place I'll have to take."

The thing is he didnt become renowned for fluffing chances- how many full games did he have ....a few at most? He wasnt even given half a chance....TDM just didnt like the look of him!

I guess we'll just never know....people say that he was playing the same positions as Shearer but I personally never thought that was a bad thing....my thoughts are the same as yours Spud....he never got a chance....not even a slight one...

Never got a chance? You can make an argument for that but my gut tells me he doesn't have the balls to play at this level. He is sort of a throwback to the French of WWII. But look out Anelka, he wants your place on the national team!

Far as I can recall he got just the one chance - and looked competent enough scoring from it with a first time strike inside the box. Home to Liverpool. Problem was that the team got drubbed 4-1, thanks mainly to a hat-trick from some little tw@t who kept rubbing his palms together gleefully.
