**Correction** Pet Rock Story

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

A few days ago, on a thread that Im unable to locate, I had posted some background information on the founder of the Pet Rock; Gary Dahl. At the end of this post I had stated that Gary perished in an auto accident in 1978.

That was incorrect!!

I have learned that although the accident happened, Gary was lucky to survive and currently lives in Saratoga, California where he runs his advertising consultant business. He just recently won the Grand Prize in the Bulwer-Lytton fiction contest, a collection of mangled prose from around the world.

Sorry for the error!

I appreciate the correction, Ra. Unfortunately, I noticed with Y2k information that the first information was the one that etched into memory.

I have a "pet" rock somewhere around this office. It's a stone my daughter colored and gave me many years back. Remember the years when your kids made things and presented them to you as gifts? I, heartlessly, threw many of them away, but I still have that "pet" rock, a home-made voodoo doll, a small canvas sack full of rice [I think] that can be microwaved into a heating pad, and a few other things.

Ra:

I think it is excellant to post a correction. To admit one was wrong is one of the more mature things to do. Thanks.

Anita, Im flattered that my obsure statement on Mr. Dahl had such a profound effect on your thought process. I too would find it unfortunate if you were unable to process the corrected data. As regards the subject of Y2K information, we all were bombarded by conflicting projections and positions.some of us got it and others did not get it. As I recall you were able to properly process that data with success so Im hopeful that the exagerrated report of Garys demise will not stay with you for too long.

Dont let J hear about your Voodoo Doll. :)

Pets are very important. My pet rock loves me unconditionally.

Ra,

A friend e-mailed the alleged winner today. I'm not sure if it's Mr. Dahl's handywork - but here goes;

"The sun oozed over the horizon, shoved aside darkness, crept along the greensward, and, with sickly fingers, pushed through the castle window, revealing the pillaged princess, hand at throat, crown asunder, gaping in frenzied horror at the sated, sodden amphibian lying beside her, disbelieving the magnitude of the frog's deception, screaming madly, "You lied!"

PS I know you don't like being referred to as Sun Ra, but afterall, Space IS the Place...

Hi Fora,

Here is the winner from Mr. Dahl;

"The heather-encrusted Headlands, veiled in fog as thick as smoke in a crowded pub, hunched precariously over the moors, their rocky elbows slipping off lands end, their bulbous, craggy noses thrust into the thick foam of the North Sea like bearded old men falling asleep in their pints."

Space is a good thing.

Sorry, I meant Flora.

Thanks Ra-

{Did you ever have the pleasure of seeing Sun Ra & his Arkestra? Would've been a head trip for ol' al-}

Flora, I suspect that old Al is a former 'Tubes' groopie. All those 'eye drops' took their toll.
