In one of the few lighthearted books, "The 2000Year-Old Man,'' Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner joke about the entire event. They quote the man as saying "Jesus used to come into my candy store outside Bethlehem and always asked for a glass of water. If I'd known he'd shake up the world so much I would have made him a partner in the store.''

Some writers have concentrated on what life was like at the turn of the last millennium. "The Year 1000,'' by Robet Lacey and Danny Danziger, notes that there already were brain surgeons, property developers and gossip columnists in those days, and that there was a "medieval form of Viagra and a hallucinogen called crazy bread.''

"A Message for the Millenium'' instructs people how to get in touch with their own angels in order to diffuse society's negative energy. "Pooh and the Millennium'' tries to make connections between Winnie the Pooh and most philosophic beliefs.

"Golf in the Year 2000'' is about a Scot who fell into a trance in 1892 and awakened in March, 2000. The book, first published in 1892, predicted dumb waiters, photography and a television-like screens.

"Woman to Woman 2000'' advises women on surviving "sabotage'' by other women in the workplace.

"Prayers for a Thousand Years'' includes prayers from the ultra famous such as the Dalai Lama, to the unknown, such as Kaila Spencer a schoolgirl from Colorado who She cuts right to the chase.

"Keep your heart clean with peace. Don't get it dirty with greed. It is not too late to clean it.'' From ???@??? Sat Apr 24 14:50:52 1999 Subject: Will TAMI FAYE BE NEXT?? Jim BAKKER has "Y2K BOOK". http://www.smu.edu/cgi-bin/Nova/get/gn/1186.html

Subject: Will Tammy Faye ben next ? JIM BAKKER HAS A "Y2K BOOK"!!!The Denver Post Online: Y2000

Some of the others are fruit cakes but THIS HAS TO BE THE END OF THE PUBLIC NONSENSE:

"Another voice out of the past, Jimmy Bakker of PTL fame, writes that his book, "Prosperity and the Coming Apocalypse'' might just "save you'' from the coming economic collapse, the possibility of war and meteors that will hit the earth and "weather patterns that show the world is out of control.''

Books about the millenium

By Virginia Culver Denver Post Religion Writer

April 22 - Entering a new millennium "tends to make us look for ways to get on God's side,'' according to the book, "Millennium Moments.''

Such a time "affects people the way moonlight affects werewolves and sirens affect dogs,'' wrote Peter Carlson in the same book.

"Millennium Mania,'' is one of scores of books for sale in the last days of 1999. Aisde from the dozens on the Y2K computer crisis, other books tell you how to survive the millennium - to laugh at it or to ready yourself for a world meltdown.

Religious right Christians are revving up their predictions that the millennium could bring the end of the world, basing their ideas on complicated interpretations of the Book of Revelation that they believe correspond to world events some believe will occur before Jesus's return.

Earthquakes, El Niqo, famines, pollution, wars and an increase in "wickedness'' point to the end of the world, according to Bruce Bickel and Stan Jantz. They write that "we have no theological or scientific qualifications,'' but emphatically state that the only hope for the world is Christianity.

Several books echo the Bickel-Jantz book, but other authors apparently havedecided now is a good time to reintroduce their warnings about a lot of things.

Demond Wilson, who became famous as the son on the 1970s television sitcom, "Sanford And Son,'' warns about the dangers of freemasonry, humanists, the modern church and the "infiltration'' of the education system. He calls his book, "The New Age Millenium,'' "an expose of symbols slogans and hidden agendas.''

Another voice out of the past, Jimmy Bakker of PTL fame, writes that his book, "Prosperity and the Coming Apocalypse'' might just "save you'' from the coming economic collapse, the possibility of war and meteors that will hit the earth and "weather patterns that show the world is out of control.''

Several books resurrect centuries-old prophecies, including those of the 16th century mystic Nostradamus, who some believe predicted that a comet, called "the king of terror'' is hurtling toward the earth.

Susan Robinson of Denver predicts in her book, "Whatcha Gonna Do if the Grid Goes Down?'' that most people will be without electricity, natural gas and running water for an least a month. The world could wake up "in deep yogurt'' if there is no heat Jan. 1, she warns. She includes checklists for everything, including food storage and a "waste and water action plan.''

In "Y2K and Y-O-U'' authors explain how to use wind and solar power for electricity, how to prepare your pantry, obtain and treat water and cool your home if the crisis lasts into summer. Dermot McGuigan, Beverly Jacobson and Chelsea Grier recommend keeping your daily routine, eating three meals a day, exercising, "and avoid having a baby between Dec. 31, 1999 and March, 2000.''

Grant Jeffrey warns in "Millenium Meltdown'' that everything from blenders to digitally-controlled silence dog collars will be affected, and it "could cost up to $1 trillion globally'' to rid computers of the Y2K bug.

"The New Millennium Manual'' quotes Yogi Berra's line "the future ain't what it used to be,'' the only cheerful line in a book that has exhaustive explanations about millennialism, pre-millennialism and dispensational millennialism. These concern the return of Jesus and the belief of some people that he will reign for 1,000 years.

In one of the few lighthearted books, "The 2000Year-Old Man,'' Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner joke about the entire event. They quote the as saying "Jesus used to come into my candy store outside Bethlehem and always asked for a glass of water. If I'd known he'd shake up the world so much I would have made him a partner in the store.''

Few in the USA. Some fast for religious reasons...some to lose weight....and now some like yourself as an experiment....and we hear the stats on how many children die each day from starvation in the world.

I am home at the moment taking a breather from the Y2k Summit and Town Meeting here in Phoenix. It ends tonite with Pat Boone and local folks giving us an update and taking questions. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx The afternoon program began with Craig Smith (the main man) introducing a special guest he had promised...it was a cute young girl which he held in his arms...he said, "this is the reason we are here...so that she will not know hunger in a few months". It was a real emotional grabber!!-- ronbanks (phxbanks@webtv.net), February 27, 1999.

xxxxxxxxxxxxx I'LL JUST BET IT WAS !!

But of course, he will feel ever so much better when they total the sales of the Gold Coins his "investment Coin Brokers" pushed out this weekend.
