Upcoming Maize Events

greenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread

There are now two places we can run in corn mazes... Pendleton's and an elephant maze in Chanute KS http://www.ChanuteKs.com/mazeks/ (about 100 miles south of Lawrence). Reading this morning's Topeka paper (which is online somewhere) I also saw that if we went to Chanute, we could stop by the drive-in movie theatre at Gas City.

Anyway, I emailed Karen Pendleton and she was quite willing to let us really run in the maze. They are not open Sunday mornings and this would be our chance.

So, I'll figure out which weekend I like in the blistering heat of August for that event and post it here after getting the final OK from Karen.

Also, I have in mind to run a 50K trail run in September. The website http://www.ericsteele.com/kus/frtrdes.htm describes the course as quite rough. But what better way to get in shape for the Trot IV!

Finally, (or maybe better, recently) I'll be doing a 5K in Topeka Saturday before the Forest Park event. I'm hoping for a fast time after which I'll take a couple of months to rebuild my base.

Nancy and I took the grandkids and our daughter to the Butterfly corn maze at Pendleton's?? just west of Eudora and I thought it would be great to hold an event there, too. I'm glad you contacted the Pendletons, Fritz. I mentioned it at the Possum Trot O Club annual picnic and we all thought it would be a great idea.

Let me know when the event will be and I will try to get Possum Trotters there too.

Now the city commission has given its approval to chainsaws at corn mazes. It might be fun if someone with a chainsaw chased after orienteers in the maze.
