in windows u can right click on an avi and get info such as the codecs used, etc. how can that be re-enabled? i suspect it is some registry key

You can only get this information if your Avis play through Windows Media Player. If the icon on the Avi is not a piece of paper and a camcorder, or the new WMP icon, then you need to open Windows Media Player, go into the options, then file types and tick the box next to 'Video Clip'. Now you have the properties available to view.

i did that, but still no success. i just know its something in that "oh so hated" registry. any other ideas?
