HELP! - C2020Z image numbering problem

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Just got this Olympus C2020 Zoom, and it's great. Only probs so far - when I take several different shots and download into the computer ( using the Camedia master 1.2 software ) each new set of shots seem to use the same number reference, and to view them I am having to overwrite the previous shots with the same number. Have I missed something - I can't seem to understand the description of labelling in the manual! Thick Limey!

Can't help you with your camera problem but if you are using a PC then you might want to check out PCMagazines free utility called "MultiRen" which will rename blocks of files. I use it all the time with my photos after I've loaded them on my hard drive. You can do mass renumberings like "July4_\n" and it will label the whole block "July4_" with sequencial numbers of your choice added on the end. You will find it by going to http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/utilities.html and doing a search on "multiren". If you have trouble finding or using it let me know.

I have an Oly C2000Z and, assuming that the numbering system used is the same as the C2020Z, my photos number thusly:

P6273590.jpg

The "6" is the month, the "27" is the day and the "3590" is a sequence number indicating, in this case, that I've taken just over three and a half thousand photos.

In my case, I *only* use the Camedia software for stitching panoramas together. (And very well it works in this role.) I'd advise you to get a FlashPath adapter and use plain ol' file manager software to suck stuff off of the flash card.

Hi

I used the C2000 and now the C3030. Both have a different numbering system. I guess the C2020 and C3030 are the same.

You can change the numbering format from "reset" to "auto" in reset mode, each time you delete your pictures, the numbering wil reset and beginn at the start. In auto mode it works similar like the numberin of the C2000, even if you erase the card it will continue.

Thanks very much, folks, for all your helpfull advice - I think the problem was with doing several downloads on the one day - I've since found that the next day the date changes on the download images, so no problem. I did downlosd the "Multiren" prog as advised, but haven't had a proper play with it to discover how to work it, but I have just bought a USB reader, and, BOY, is it faster! Thanks to all for the advice, and for a brilliant forum.

The method I have been using is to create a folder for each project or occasion and then create subfolders for each subsequent card downloaded; and, as I have many cards, I will use a new one if the project changes and haven't filled up the last one used. Then, when viewing a "slide show" in Camedia, I check (include subfolders).

Also I have a question relating to Mark Davis's reply stating that he only uses Camedia for "stitching panoramas together"....I have been using QuickStitch for panarama photos and can't find a function in Camedia for stitching photos. Is there a later version of Camedia that offers stitching?

Sincerely,

Rick Hoge
