Sony will be releasing double capacity CDs by 2001. Called 'double-density' CDs they say CD drives would require little or no modification to enable the technology. The downside is that they're gonna cost as much as DVDs :(

The potential is there though... 148 minute VCDs anyone?

price of the write unit is not somewhat a concern...however, it is reasonably low under the 1K range, then it's worth it. It's the price of the media, which concerns me more....
