Summer Movies

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Gwen's Trailer Trash Forum : One Thread

So, what movies have you guys seen this summer? I just saw Scary Movie this past weekend - it was silly and juvenile, and I loved it!

Are there any movies that haven't been released yet that you can't wait to see?

I wanna see Scary Movie, X Men, and The Eyes of Tammy Faye.

Is "The Eyes of Tammy Faye" for real? I'm laughing my butt off, either way.

High Fidelity has my vote. Dawdled, since have read the book, but want to see it.

Several friends have urged me to see Chicken Run. :)

The Eyes of Tammie Faye is a documentary about Tammie Faye Baker, with Ru Paul narrating.

High Fidelity is at the dollar theater by me - you may want to check out the theaters around you that play older movies so you can catch it before it goes to video.

Milla, Chicken Run is *so* funny. Go see it.

I've also seen Gladiator, The Patriot and The Perfect Storm. So I've pretty much got it covered for hunk-o-licious movie stars.

I'll probably go see Space Cowboys - it looks like it might be funny.

The Patriot was, in Gwen's words, I believe, "high quality, bad- ass!"!! I loved it...I think Mel Gibson's starting to look kinda old, though.

I've seen Gladiator 3 times in the theater. I love it.

Gwen, you are my new idol. I'm going out to the theater tonight to see my sweet boyfriend in that movie at LEAST two times in a row. Maybe I should leave work early in order to maximize my viewing time...

Good Lord "The Eyes of Tammy Fae" sounds incredible. I hope that is playing here.

I have a relative who's seen Gladiator *8* times (maybe more by now). She's slightly obsessed, I'd say.

I've seen it twice (cried both times), might go see it again, and will buy the video when it comes out. Great flick.

One of my new favorite movie lines: "On my signal, unleash Hell."

My husband begged me to go see Chicken Run with him and his friends tonight, but I just can't do it. Every time I see a film with a large bandwagon attached, I am always disappointed and wish I'd bought some new nail polish instead of a movie ticket.

That, and I'm sure he'll end up buying the DVD anyway (he's a big Wallace and Grommit> fan).

I'm the opposite. I begged my husband to PLEASE see Chicken Run with me instead of that godforsaken Perfect Storm but he refused and I caved. Perfect Storm was exactly what I expected: lots of waves and death and mushy, mushy love.

Gladiator was okay, especially the Rome-refurbished-via-computer- animation part.

Just saw X-Men tonight and love, love, loved it. I'm going to see it again, except in a theater with surround sound, before it hits video. (I never see movies twice, but this one was good.)

I want to see the scary-looking movie with the VR scene and the serial killer and it comes out Aug. 18th and it was a trailer before X-Men but... I forgot the name.

Yesterday on AMC they showed "The Fall of the Roman Empire" from 1964, I think.....it was Gladiator! I didn't know that Gladiator was a remake of an earlier movie, did anyone? Well anyway, it was very good (Sophia Loren played Commodius' sister)....Chicken Run was a scream, but I'm totally partial to droll humor right now.

Can anyone supply anymore facts on the "Eyes of Tammy Fae" documentary? I can't find any info about it. Of course, Jeb Bush will probably have it blocked here in Florida...maybe not if Dubya let's you Texans see it.

Give me the scoop if you have any. Thanks

I recommend X-Men. Not only is it a quality movie, but Hugh Jackman is hot.

Actually, I saw the poster in Toronto. I think they had a website, which may or may not have been at www.eyesoftammyfaye.com. I'll go check in a while.

If they show it here, it'll prolly only be at the "art" theater. That's what they did to Dogma.

I liked X-Men a lot. I've been awfully disappointed in the summer movies so far (I'm the only person on the planet who thought Gladiator was awful), so I held out a lot of hope for this one, and it was good. That Bryan Singer is one talented dude. And Hugh Jackman (I just type Huge instead of Hugh) is gorgeous!

Every time someone says Hugh Jackman, I always think of prank calling a bar and asking for Hugh Jass.

I've seen Scary Movie and X Men this summer. Both are good in their own ways.

But today I saw What Lies Beneath/. Wooo-Lordy! What a scary flick! Awesome movie, this is exactly what a thriller is supposed to be!! You totally need to go see this if you haven't yet.

Although I still have YET to see Eyes of TF, I'm resurrecting this topic to ask who's seen The Cell, who wants to see it, and who wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot popcorn bucket.

-- Anonymous, August 24, 2000

I want to see it.

-- Anonymous, August 24, 2000

Gwen, I shouldn't be posting 'cause I just got home from a night out with my girls, but...

The Cell. Silence of the Lambs meets an MTV video, and I'm sorry, but as much as I wanted to like it, it was a piece of crap. Jennifer Lopez playing a scientist (psychologist or no)...one review (can't remember where) called her Miss Concerned Nevada when she's trying to be serious, and he got it right on. And my boyfriend Vince Vaughan was woefully miscast -- they tried to make him 10 years older than he is, a seasoned, former-prosecutor, long-time detective...and the woman-in-peril stuff was tiring and offensive (and it takes a lot to offend me)...I'm drunk. Enough already.

I just saw "Croupier" and loved it.

-- Anonymous, August 25, 2000

I hate to disagree with you, but I thought What Lies Beneath sucked. And blew. But I thought Coyote Ugly and The Replacements were good mindless entertainment. And my friend Dan *hated* The Cell.

-- Anonymous, August 25, 2000

Don't worry on my account, Barb. I figured The Cell would suck, but I wish I could see it for free or something. I'm interested in the special effects on the big screen. I'll just plug my ears for the rest -- IF I go see it, which I probably won't, coz I don't even get out of the house to see movies I like, hardly.

-- Anonymous, August 25, 2000

I'm dyin' to see Croupier! Also wanna make it to Tao of Steve.
