Cherri,

The Sahara relieved me of $260 last night. A down night, but had a lot of fun losing it. I figure I'm still ahead about $250 or so over my last 5 or 6 visits, but BEWARE. Sphinx just sucked in my money, so tried Monopoly for the first time. Lots of Fun!

CD, I WAS thinking of you at various times, especially when the "free drinks" ladies happened by (rather frequently).

Everyone, does anyone know who has the "loosest" slots in Vegas? I don't!

Flash, there's one hell of an opening you left (pun intended): loosest slots?

Egads man!

Hi Bingo,

Brain Fatigue! Glad you're on Patrol!!! It's that darn brain homogonizing music from the machine next to you that plays loudly and incessantly when SOMEONE ELSE wins a jackpot.

LOL Flash. (And I'm definitely going to take you up on that offer to buy me a drink if/when I make it to Vegas this Oct.)

It's that darn brain homogonizing music from the machine next to you that plays loudly and incessantly when SOMEONE ELSE wins a jackpot.

LOL. "Brain homogonizing" is a great term for it Flash. The "sound" of a win (even if it's not yours) is definitely an incentive to keep playing. And casinos are more than happy to keep that "sound" within everyone's earshot. In fact, the machines have both a volume control and a feature which is called an "attract mode". An attract mode is automatically initiated in the machine when it has been sitting idle for an extended period of time. Perhaps you've noticed this when you've walked past a vacant machine and saw the reels spinning, lights blinking and jackpot-like sounds coming from it even though nobody played it. (You can see why it's called an "attract mode" as it gets your attention and sways you into "trying" it.) Another reason for this feature is to gives you the impression that "others" are winning.

As I said, the casinos love for you to hear the sounds of winning. Vendors are happy to oblige also. One product I recall was a sound system which a casino could purchase/install which would play recorded sounds of coins dropping in trays intermitently throughout the casino.

Probably lots more sub-conscious (subliminal?) psychology going on in the casinos than you are aware of. From sounds (such as described above) to colors to yes, even smells believe it or not. I believe it was the MGM that had experimented with smells in a test area of their slots floor. At specific times throughout the day various aromas (orange, cinnamin, mint, etc) would be automatically aerosal-sprayed within the area and the amount of play would be monitored. I don't recall the end result but there *was* one fragrance which resulted in greater play in the area. I don't believe the end result was very substantial, but nevertheless, it was tried and may still be getting utilized for all I know.

It's interesting how colors, sounds, smells, can elicit various subtle emotions/states of mind in people. Oh, oh... I'm starting to babble-on again. Time to go hit the beach and whiff-up some of that great smelling coconut oil suntan lotion the beach beauties wear. Always puts me in a relaxed yet invigorated moods. Hmmm, wonder if the MGM had tried that "flavor"?

Flash...

Try the Riviera, the machines nearest the door, quarter and dollar slots. Also, Westward Ho. I won several hundred in those two places. Also, try the wheel of fortune (think that's what it's called). Good luck! =o)
