How do you remove mold from a comforter? It got wet and before I could get to the laundry it became very moldy.It's a fiber filled heavy one.Any suggestions would be greatfully appreciated. Thank-you in advance. Sandi

If you don't have the washing instructions which came with the comforter go to a K-Mart or someplace similar and try to find something similar. Get the washing/drying instructions from there. I would think washing in one of those oversized washing machines at a laundromat would work with perhaps solar drying over a picnic table or something.

I know bleach is good on mold with other things. why don't you try the kind of bleach that can be used on colors? it's specially made for colored clothes

Sandi, I have had good luck in spraying vinegar on the mold and placing the quilt in the sun. you may have to do this several times until all the mold is gone. I read this in an old quilting magazine, and I have never NOT had it work for me or others. sissy

Consider trying hydrogen peroxide. It might be a little easier on the fabric than bleach. Just dab peroxide on the affected areas if small or soak the affected area in a bowl or bucket to get it all wet. If you need a fairly large quantity of peroxide, try a local beauty supply store. They usually sell it by the gallon.

Sandi, I don't have first hand experience, but a good friend uses a cleaner called Bar Keeper's Friend. It comes in a can like ajax or comet. I think she makes a paste with it and rubs it in before washing.
