Can Sega Dreamcast or the forthcoming Sony PlayStation2 play VCDs?

Does anyone know if the Sega Dreamcast or the forthcoming Sony PlayStation2 (already released in Japan) can play VCDs?

Thanks, Frank

Well, no-one's answered. For anyone who's interested, it looks like Sega Dreamcast does NOT support Video CD playback. It uses a proprietary 1GB CD format. I sent an e-mail to Sony to try to find out more about the PlayStation2. I'll post my findings here when I get a response.

Okay, it looks like neither of them support VCD. There's talk of third-party add-ons but that's about it.

You can play VCDs on Dreamcast. To do so you firstly copy the VCD on to your hard drive, you then have to download Gypplayer which can be done so from www.dcemulation.com You then simply put them VCD and Gypplayer on to your blank cd and away you go. However, you do need to insert the Utopia boot disk first.
