This may seem like an obvious question, but do you remember how these two lines went?

Hello. I've been reading through my "Complete Tales & Poems" since I last responded to your question and I think I may have found what you're looking for. Poe never wrote a 2-line poem in its own right, though the tale "The Island of the Fay" contains the following:

If this isn't the poem you were thinking of, please e-mail me and I'll se if I can help further.

Yours,

Joe

Go to the chronological life of Poe at the Poe site in baltimore. On the chronological list is the first poem Poe ever wrote -- it was a 2 lines poem called poetry. Maybe this is what you are looking for?
