What do you reckon the future holds for him? Will he be a regular next season? Do you want him to be?

I think he will last another season or even two. It would be a shame if he missed out on his testimonial. And with him and Al such good mates he might hang round for a coaching job, if Al ever takes over as manager.

I think he will spend a lot of time warming the bench come the end of September when the boys have been seperated from the men within the team. He is what 34 now? I don't think even he will expect much else.

I know he was after an extension to his current contract don't know if he has signed one. He wanted 2 years but didn't Bobby only offer him 1?

Who knows, but it will take a damned good player to take his place. Even at 34, I don't believe such a player is presently on the books, with due deference to Bassedas who we haven't seen as yet.

Much as I still respect him, I'm concerned about our over-reliance on RL again this coming season, and still hope we sign Josef Guardiola so we could perm any three from RL/GS/JG - although again this presupposes Bassedas is a different kind of m/f player.

You assume Shearer is going to be manager in the near future, I can't see him being a good manager (too much of a Daglish protege) For me Robert Lee would be a much more sensible choice.

You probably missed it Dave LF, but there were reports some weeks ago that RL is AS's choice as either Chief coach or Asst. Manager when he takes over from BR.

AS far as manager is concerned I would like to see AS learn a bit before he takes us on. Secondly, Rob Lee's legs were going at the end of last season I reckon, still thereabouts mind but not as he was early season with YBR. Thought it was one of his best seasons for ages and he was still the linch pin alright.

I believe he will give two seasons but not as automatic first team choice, save his legs and he'll benefit the club much more than the dross that WAS thought to replace him.

I've been trying to discuss this for a while. We don't know what type of player Bassedas is yet or where he'll play. But we do know that Rob Lee and Speed are our only two 'engine room' players. Lee looks like he only has about two seasons left in his legs, and Speed will be 31 by the time this season finishes.

That's why I've been jumping up and down about Hayden Mullins. If he finishes the season with Crystal Palace, and it now looks like he will with CP finally resolving their financial situation, he's got to be thinking about the EPL to further his career.

As the third midfielder to play in the 'engine room' he'd be ideal. He can learn behind Lee and Speed and still get enough games due to injuries, suspensions and players being rested.

He's the same age as Jamie McClen, but vastly more experienced at a higher level (ie Captain of a first division side over a reserve regular),. Mick Wadsworth certainly rates him, having coached him and touted the lad to Bobby Robson. He was in the national U.21 squad but played in the position with the deepest amount of talent, so only got a few games.

I'm not touting the lad as an absolute star, just looking at the fact that we need two players in very position and that means four central midfield players. If we added the lad, that doesn't stop us from signing experienced foriegn internationals either.

My perfect scenerio would be for Guardiola to be signed by the beginning of the season and Mullins signed next summer after he's had another season to improve. However this is on the assumption that he does improve and would be an asset to our club. Unfortunately this means that he will no longer be available for a knock down price as Palace are now financially stable and are currently trying to rework the lads contract, and that other clubs might well be hot on his trail by then.

Hey it might happen. I desperately wanted us to sign Carl Cort and we did. ;-)
