Josie and the Pussycats!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Gwen's Trailer Trash Forum : One Thread

(I thought of this question the other day and I've got to ask it before I forget...) G-Force told me that there's a live-action movie of Josie and the Pussycats in the works. (That *was* you who told me, Gayla, eh?)

My question to you is: Who would make up your dream cast for this film? Which actors would make the best Josie, Melody, Alexandra, Alexander, that other chick, and that guy?

If you don't know who Josie and the Pussycats are, you best go edumacate yourself! Somebody, quick! Find a good Pussycats fan site...

Okay, here's a site for the uninitiated: http://members.aol.com/horemheb/josie.htm

It's by some guy named Brad Nelson. Brad, if you have referrer logs, then "hi!"

Bridget Fonda for Josie, definitely. Sigourney Weaver for Alexandra, if she weren't really too old for the part. Ooh, and that girl who played Bubbles on Absolutely Fabulous for Melody. She does ditz better than anyone.

Amen to Bridget Fonda for Josie. The resemblance is uncanny. Another consideration: Lea Thompson. That could work.

I haven't yet given this anywhere near the thought it warrants, but I just had an inspiration -- Rose McGowan as Alexandra. Maybe Drew Barrymore as Melody? Even though she's already in Charlie's Angels and everybody hates her, I mean. (I love her. Shh! Don't tell Wing Chun, eh?)

I think the cast of VIP would be great in this capacity. I love Pam.

So do I, Danni! Pamela Anderson is the perfect woman! She would be the perfect Josie, since Josie is supposed to be perfect!

-- Anonymous, July 06, 2000

I know she's too old, but I totally see Sheri Belafonte as Valerie.

-- Anonymous, July 07, 2000

Oh, yes, Shari Belafonte would be a good Valerie. But Pamela Anderson is the perfect woman? Have you ever heard the woman interviewed? Her bra size has *got* to be a bigger number than her IQ. If that's perfection, I wanna relocate to a different planet RIGHT NOW.

I am so excited about this movie I can't stand it. Unfortunately, it won't be out 'til 2001. But, my favorite actress is Parker Posey who would make a fab Alexandra. She's got the attitude.

I see a little green monster, and I think her name is Mary Anne... Have you ever heard her interviewed? I didn't think so.

-- Anonymous, July 07, 2000

Did you mean *me*? Jealous of Pamela Anderson? Well, that's a first. I'm going to cinch my Seatbelt on Reality a little tighter now, if you don't mind.

-- Anonymous, July 07, 2000

Danni-
A) Her name is Mary *Ellen*.
B) No-one in their right mind would be jealous of Pammy "minus 100 IQ" Anderson, and
C) If you absolutely must cast Pammy, she would be much better suited to the role of Melody than to Josie, who actually seemed to be able to string a lucid sentence together.

I, for one, am jealous of Pamela Anderson. She has a life I wish I could have lived, and I would appreciate you not making fun of me for wanting a glamorous life. I'm so sorry I'm not as high class as you all, and please forgive me for not liking all the high and mighty actresses you think should be in a movie about fucking cartoon characters that dress up like cats and sing 60s music.

Danni, email me, 'kay?

Actually, Pam A would probably make a really good Melody. Seriously!

Claudia, Parker Posey as Alexandra is an excellent fucking idea. I was thinking Valerie could be played by Vivica Fox. She does look like Sheri Belafonte, and maybe even a bit like Halle Berry, but I like Vivica. (It's just her name. Vivica. VIVICA. Vivica!) Either Vivica or Li'l Kim. Heh.

What about Alan? Which blond for him? How about Jude Law? Ha. Or Matt Damon? No -- someone more serious, right? I'm not up on all the latest tall blond guys. Help me out, here.

What about Alexandra's goofy brother, Alexander? David Arquette, maybe? I was reading that site I linked above and I saw that one of the singing voices is done by "Cheryl Ladd". Is that Cheryl Ladd the model, y'all think?

-- Anonymous, July 09, 2000

Gwen: I seem to remember reading somewhere that it is indeed theCheryl Ladd who sings on the Josie and The Pussycats songs.

-- Anonymous, July 09, 2000

No, you mean Cheryl Ladd from Charlie's Angels, right? Cheryl Tiegs is the model.

Alan M. is hard. He's so white bread, and white bread is just not popular in Hollywood right now.

Halle Berry, I think, is too glamorous for Valerie. Although she does have that absolutely perfect Barbie body that all the cartoon gals do.

-- Anonymous, July 10, 2000

No that wasn't me Gwen. But I heard that somewhere too. Maybe we were in the same room when someone mentioned it.

wow you speek englsh real good!1

Okay, sorry, but this movie looks like it sucks. I'm already disappointed. And is it true that they aren't even using the original theme song? Whatever. That's what made the cartoon.

-- Anonymous, March 25, 2001

Have you seen the scary Scooby Doo movie cast picture? There might be a competition to find out who can make the suckiest movie EVER based on a cartoon. "Viva Rock Vegas" is a definite contender.

-- Anonymous, March 26, 2001

Word. And I thought that Drew Barrymore was going to be in it, in which case I would have watched it even if it sucked.

Of course, I'll watch it anyway.

-- Anonymous, March 26, 2001

Drew Barrymore will possibly be in a remake of "Barbarella". This scares me.

-- Anonymous, March 26, 2001

So is anyone going to see it? I just saw a few cast pictures. Without the original song, I'm already disappointed, but, lord, that's just not Josie. *sad*

Were any of those girls even alive when J&tP was originally on the air? (Well, Nic is probably showing re-runs, but you know what I mean.)

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2001

I'm going. I believe I'll be going alone. I would have never cast Rachel Leigh Cook as Josie. I don't like her for some reason. I think my dislike goes all the way back to her angry "This is your brain on drugs" ad. That was before she was an older film maker that Dawson had a crush on.

Anyway, it looks as fun as Charlie's Angels, but way dumber.

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2001

It looks a little flimsy, a little lightweight, to me, judging by the previews. I'll definitely be going to see it, but I'm not expecting much. And it's not humanly possible to move the way J&tP danced, so that kinda blows the authenticity, right there. :-)

And if you see RLC/Josie trying to hide a frying pan behind her back while her pupils take the shape and color of yolks, RUN!
