Mpenza deal DEFINITELY off

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

"Meanwhile, Emile Mpenza has reacted angrily to the news that Cort has replaced him in Bobby Robson's affections, insisting he would not have joined Newcastle anyway. The Belgian striker was the subject of negotiation between United and his club FC Schalke 04 over an #8m move. But the way now seems clear for Tottenham - who also fancied Cort - to move in for Mpenza. And that suits the player, who blasted: "I don't care. Newcastle do not have the same reputation as Manchester United and the city itself does not offer the same advantages as London."

erm, thank god we didn't buy this twat

l like cort even more now.

Sour grapes. Obviously we haven't got the same reputation as Newton Heath...thank f##k! And to be not similar to London is quite a blessing in my book.

He's only young and he'll learn!

Dunno where you got that quote Swift but it's out of context...I read it somewhere yesterday when the deal still looked on and it was being quoted in a much different light with him saying that he was looking forward to the challenge that Bobby Robson had for him....

Effing reporters eh...shoot em all....

So he thinks ManU are in London - easy mistake to make! ;-)

Classic stuff. Gav is right: it has been taken out of context and dressed up as sour grapes. He actually said that although we don't have Man U's reputation (not having won the Champions' League in the last two years for instance) or the attractions of London life, he was keen to work with YBR. Why didn't they quote Keegan as saying "we can still win it" after we went out in the group stage?
