England World Cup 2006 bid

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Any of yoo BBSers care if we get the WC or not? Would it benefit the game in this country?

Who would benefit? The clubs? The FA? The fans?

Only benefit I can see is that England wouldn't have to qualify!

It's a non-starter when an issue has been made at our inability to stop our hooligans from travelling...nobody wants to come here unless we can guarntee them not being here.

Morrocco out first round.........England out second round......leave South Africa and Germany.

South Africa will win it.....

Anyone who goes looking for aggro in the townships will be coming home in an urn...

The agro at Euro 2000 had nothing at all to do with England not getting the bid.....this decision was made months ago and is purely political.

On the issue of fans misbehaving and being marched to the cash point to get an on the spot fine out of the hole in the wall machine.....just watch the back tracking on that from here on in....

Just imagine the scenario.....

police find a young man, under-age for drinking, but is drunk and incapable, vomiting in a London street and generally making an arse or himself..... on questioning, he gives them a false name, false address and false date of birth.....what do they do, do they take him to the station or the cash point.........

They take him to the station, presumably to sober up enough to remember his pin number, but then someone recognises him....what do they do......oh how good it must be to have a father in high places to pull strings and make sure there are no charges leveled......

Not with you ITK, surely the violence at Euro2000 makes quite certain that the England bid is buried? Doesn't matter how serious or not it all was: it was reported as being dastardly and English. If you insist on farting in a confined space then people will edge away from you. That's where the politics have come in. What can we possibly offer to potential voters to dissuade them from not wishing to be linked with a country with a hooligan problem? No future in waving flags of St George at the mo.

I find it tragic and deeply disturbing that the Red Cross of St. George, for decades associated with all that was good about civilised Western society and international philanthropism through the Red Cross organisation, has now become entirely synonymous with misguided nationalistic bigotry, hooliganism, and mindless drunken violence perpetrated around Europe by English yobs/lager-louts.
Taking Softie's point, let's hope S/Africa do indeed get the WC. If so, let's ensure that all our yobs are given free match and airline tickets, and an open invitation to just exhibit their normal 'behaviour' in the townships. I'd certainly volunteer to spread their ashes in "some foreign field" that could once again become "forever England".

Hee hee, ITK!! Just heard the story on Capital Gold. Along with a clip of daddy giving a speech mentioning the importance of raising kids right that was obviously written, "....errr....ummmm.....well...uhhhh....a short time ago..."
DOH!
