Are we really that far behind???!@~##

That due to the signing of Carl Cort, we now don't need a third striker in Duncan Ferguson. Why should the signing of Cort see the end of Dunc's career at the Toon. The press all believe that he's on the way.

We need to rotate our players in the same way that many other clubs do. In fact the rotation of Shearer, Ferguson and Cort should ensure that we get the best out of every man. It also means that rightly or wrongly we shouldn't have to change our tactics too radicly to accomodate them all.

If we get rid of Dunc we're back to square one. With all due respect to Gallagher and Cordone, we need a little bit more.

As we discussed this just yesterday DB, I agree that this would make sense. However, there are potential problems:
i) DF' fitness. Just how capable is he of playing full-time anymore - there must be some doubts.
ii) DF's attitude - to not being considered a first choice striker.
iii) DF's wages - #40k per week is a lot for someone who just doesn't play regularly.

If DF fitness wasn't in question we probably wouldn't have signed CC, and I don't think many would be unhappy. However, I can understand the Club not wanting to pay #40k pw for someone who might play 10-15 games as season. The problem here is that I just can't see anyone else paying a significant transfer fee for a bloke who's fitness is in such serious doubt.
I'm afraid the Club has yet another very difficult problem on its hands with this one.

Yeah, if we could get somebody to shell out (say) #4M+ for Big Yin then it might make sense to sell as long as we bought another replacement. However, as Clarky points out, finding somebody who will pay his weekly wage will be the most difficult.

I think I'd prefer it if Dunc stays and that we can use him selectively so that he is less prone to injury. Last season we didn't have an option. Now with the addition of CC, we do have a chance of playing 2 top strikers in most matches. But we still need to sort out central defence (Helder, Goma, Marcelino, Howey - how many will be here?) and we need a top class midfielder - unless Bassedas/Don Corleone can crack it.

Do we not still have problem on the left of midfield? I wonder if BR intends to spell Domi and Bassedas there?
I still have reservations about our CB's, where I feel we still lack a really commanding Centre Half in the Stam mould. I see all of the existing players as support CB's.
I have a feeling BR may be intending to give Andy Griffen an extended run at LB, and given England's problem there, that could be a good career move for AG. However, he's never looked comfortable to me on the left, even though he played there for Stoke.

If it's YBR's plan to play Griffin on the left why did he play him at RB and switch Barton to LB??? I think we'll see a lot of 3-5-2 this season with Barton and Domi as the extras to change this to 5-3-2.

I'd reckon on Dab's and Hughes plus A. N. Other as the 3 CBs. When we need to play a 4-4-2 Barton would be the RB and Hughes the LB. Domi dropping to sub probably.

in the Centre I'd like to see Goma make his mark there. He has enough physical presence and pace to deal with most of the Premiership as long as he develops an understading with another. It's just like last year when we were wondering if him and Marcellino would gel, twelve months on and we're still here.

Domi should be given another spell at left back to add his blistering pace to the side, as long as he can use it at the right time, which is something YBR will take care of.

Bassedas is a real unknown to us and I have a feeling he may well be a left sided Solano. No blistering pace but creativity above all else. Still the problem remains as to where Dyer plays. Could he perform in the middle? A question that has been unanswered since he arrived and probably will remain unanswered.

Or a 4-2-3-1 with Lee and Speed holding, Cort on the left, Dyer in the middle and Solano on the right. Barton and Domi support when necessary. When defending if six people can't hold out the opposition attack we might as well not bother and go full attack.

I may be wrong about this, but I would think DF would take a pay cut if he thort he'd get moe football elsewhere. i'd still like tokeep him. he played about 20 straight games last year and that was a real purple patch for us...
