You went to Bike Week with Mark Knopfler?

-- Mike Dixon (burmashave@compuserve.com), July 06, 2000.

The vehicle is a VW?

Volvo

Nope. Nope. Nope. Mark Knopfler is me. Two hints on the vehicle, it's not Japanese and it was really cheap (that's three hints)... t

Ding ding ding! We have a winner! I'm tipping my hat to John Kantor, for it is indeed a Yugo.

It was one of the most terrifying moments in my life when we hit 90 miles an hour in that damn thing on I 85 trying to catch some chick Carlos knew, that blew by us in a Celica. We didn't. That level of mental discomfort was superceded only by our physical pain from attempting to sleep in it that night in a church parking lot in Daytona. Got some good pics though! Thanks to all contestants that entered, your entries have become the property of Eastman Goblank and they, along with your name and likeness may be used in promotional materials for future contests and advertising in perpetuity for ever and ever (and you won't get even a t-shirt), amen... t

p.s. What's a Trabant?

-- tom meyer (twm@mindspring.com), July 07, 2000.

Trabant: a small car formerly made in the now defunct East Germany. Makes a Yugo look like a luxury car. Popularly called "trabbi."

-- alan (adale66@excite.com), July 07, 2000.

One of the unique features of the Trabant was that the petrol tank was also located in the engine compartment, and you would pass a dripping petrol pump over a hot engine (assuming the thing had started) in order to fill up. Truly terrifying!

A sunroof in a Yugo? That's a surprise.

I once had a Fiat 600 (yes, that's the engine size), and the gas tank sat about 16 inches ahead of the driver. While the (water-cooled) engine was mounted in the rear, the placement of the engine was nevertheless a bit scary.

I thought it was a helicopter. I guess angle of the shot and "DEA" made me think of border crossing and hence flight.

-- Christopher Hargens (ldmr@cruzio.com), July 12, 2000.

Yeah, I was thinking a Cessna or some other light craft. The headset, sunglasses and Latin Aura of my friend, not to mention my own scurrilous visage and accoutrements, allow for undercover interpretations of low flying activities... t
