Ok, i'm just being lazy....a mate will be in London around South Kensington area next week and would be travelling to Newcastle. My question is what is the best mode of transport to get there, the cost and direction. Would the rail be the most convenient? Thanks a zillion....

DB, where abouts around newcastle is he going? is there anyone meeting him? It is bloody close both in terms of cost and time believe it or not. quandary is: train 3 hrs KGX-NCL between #44 - #75 (realistically) Plane - Heathrow/Gatwick only, hour check-in (by the rules that is) flight time - around 1hour #70 - #170.

Is he tight? Bus - 6 hrs #25 if he is near Heathrow go by plane.

Thank you DB and TM. My mate's a Newcastle fan and wish to see SJP, visit the merchandise shop, training ground ...all Newcastle related facilities and activities. All the way from Singapore, sadly he only has a day there...he would like to cover as much ground as possible when he is there.

blee, I'm a Geordie living in Singapore, I was in the Toon last October (ask Softie!?), the barstewards at Heathrow ripped me off > 350 quid, because I couldn't stipulate a return date = absolute bollocks - I few from Christchurch (NZ; return!) cheaper than Laandaan - the TOON!!! Al I WANTED, was to be hyem like!!!

blee, GNER usually has super cheap day return fares around 25-30 pounds. They have to be booked in advance and are for specific travel times, no changes, no refunds. Worked out well for me on my first visit, left KX around 830am, took the last train out of Toon around 8pm. Time enough for the ground, and all the merchandise shops(the ones at SJP and Monument have the biggest selections), and a few bevvies in the Strawberry. Probably need a car to get to Chester le Street in time to see training. There are buses running from Toon, but it takes about 45min plus another 10-15min walk from the center of town(where the bus drops you) to the training ground. If he can get into Toon early in the morning, there's a bus out of Haymarket around 930a-940a that get you out there just in time.
