Buff, Northern Spirit play in the NSL, the National Soccer League.

They started up 2 seasons ago and play in Sydney, Loonys home town.

They are the only football team in the NSL that play on the Northern side of the city and were attracting 15,000 average in their first season. They were initially a feeder club for Crystal Palace. They owned a percentage of the club.

With the problem of Palace they sought another backer and Rangers bought in. They finished mid to lower table this season. Players you may know are Robbie Slater ex B'Burn, Southampton and Ian Crooks ex Norwich. Any other info you want such as the Durie stuff you should find at northernspirit.com.au

Yup, good odds if I was around to post yesterday - except I had a friggin 17 hour day at work.

Gus I thought the Northern Spirit played in the CITY of Newcastle, which is north of the CITY of Sydney.

Tre,

Just goes to show that a University education cannot prepare you for everything in life, well not a Queensland one anyway!!

And as a adder to the above, the word on the street is that David Murray jnr, is putting a deal together that will take Brian Laudrup and Gazza to Skippyland to play for Northern Spirit.

Um you know I went on this funny bus ride a couple of years ago. Actually I used to do it regularly for a few years. Any way we would set off from Brisbane heading south, and drive through this nice little city that reminded me of Ipswich in QLD, while on our way to Sydney/Canberra/Melbourne/Hobart. Any way this city was known as Newcastle.

Tre - Gus is correct: the Northern Spirit definitely play in North Sydney (ie. on the northern side of the city - within spitting distance of the Harbour Bridge) Maybe you're confusing them with the Breakers in Newcastle ??

Buff - Yegads and gadzooks ! Laudrup and Gazza being touted eh ? I've only ever bothered watching the Spirit on a couple of occasions. Very pretty ground down there at the North Sydney Cricket Oval, but the standard of the footy is a bit unpalatable (not to mention the meat pies). The chance to laugh at Fat Boy standing like a Weeble in the centre circle may be too good to pass up mind.

You out there Muzza ? Looks like another Friday night trip to North Sydney may be on the cards.

My bad! I thought the Spirit were in Newcastle, and I though Gus was alluding to Newcastle not being a seperate city, not where the Spirit played.

cockup cockup cockup...

Nah Gus. Or, should I say, Mr. NSL ! You The Man. (just don't tell Anthony Mundine eh ? ;o))

Never mind Tre. Obviously the exams and working hours have fried the old grey matter !! Get yourself up to Magnetic Island or somewhere nice for a holiday ....
