Do you think the man in "Ligeia" really killed Rowena?

Hi, I'm really interested in what you guys think about the "Ligeia". I understand that in the story he sees drops of "ruby red" that fall into the cup of Rowena; I thought about this and it seems that the main character is, as noted in the story, a druggy. I picture the character as placing the poison in the cup, since he hated Rowena so much, and than because of his drug problem, percieving some supernatural reason for Rowena's death what do you think? --thanks

Try reading Ligeia as an allegory. She is his soul and he is in a hyopnogogic state of mind ( the time when you are almost asleep). The man cannot be happy until the soul and body are one.
