Barcelona Friendly

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

This from Optasoccer.

Meanwhile Newcastle have agreed to play a friendly against Barcelona in Spain on August 12, a week before the Premiership starts.

Talk about hitting the ground running, well at least it will prepare us for Newton Heath. Expect some more transfer talk as a result of this arrangement.

Could be as part of the Guardiola and Enrique to NUFC deal ;)))))

Hhmmm...interesting thought!
With pre-season training starting next Monday I have a feeling things could be hotting up this week - at least I'm hoping so.

I'd like to think that any new players will be signed before the pre- season starts. So as Clarky says this should be an interesting week.

I don't know about you lot but I'm really not keen on this Mpenza transfer.....I just don't think he's good enough for the premiership, he will offer some pace to our attack which is a good thing as we've been too predictable up front for some time but his ability to regularly hit the target is very worrying.....

Might as well have Huckerby back!!

Or Louis Saha for #2.5 mill. From what I've seen they are similar players!! Oustanding balance, money not the players, would total #5.5 mill. Helder?

Sounds like a good excuse for a wekend in Ibiza and watch the lads in Barca to me ... now then when's wor lass away again ? ; - )))

I realise I'm out of step with many on her, but I thought Saha was a total donkey - I'd rather have Paul Robinson in the team. Having said that he'll probably now be an outstanding success with Fulgham this season!

I not totally comfortable with the possible Mpenze signing at #8mm. He has good pace, but in Euro2000 his control looked suspect, and also he looked as though he couldn't hit the netty door with the frying pan. However, let's remember that this was a very tough stage - as evidenced by our England stars abysmal performances. We just have to trust BR's judgement on this one.
We could probably buy Huckerby back from Leeds for ca.#4mm, but IMO he's not worth it, for the same reason I'm concerned about Mpenze - they're not natural finishers.

Clarky

I think calling Saha a donkey is a bit harsh :-) He scored a great goal for us against Blackburn (I think?!?!) and his pace caused some panic for defenders.

I also have concerns about Mpenza, but I know nothing about football in comparison to YBR and I'll wait and see...especially if the deal actually comes off!

Louis Saha, 6 starts, 5 subs appearances, 1 yellow card and 2 goals. Friendly towards pissed bbsers stood outside Munchies even if he didn't have a clue what they were all saying to him.

We all remember the Blackburn goal, but he also scored in our 4-1 home win over Coventry on 17 November 1999. He played Shearer through for our first and nodded in at the near post for our third before being subbed for Ketsbaia.

or 17 February even...bliddy Hell, this time distortion problem is catching!

Once bitten...

Two or three years ago we'd have lapped up Mpenza (figuratively speaking). I think the doubts about him on here have a lot to do with the words Guivarc'h, Andersson and Tomasson. Which is not to say they're not justified of course. In fact, from a fan's point of view, pessimism might just be the way forward until good things start happening consistenly on the pitch. Too many false dawns, my friends...

You can't say Guivarc'h was a failure here. He just didn't get the chanceld have given him the chance if nothing else.

For what it's worth, the official s*ite is claiming Bobby is not willing to pay 8mil for Mpenza. Or even "M Penza"(by order of NUFC, all tresspassers will be shot, etc etc.) ;-))

-- Anonymous, July 04, 2000

The rumoured deal is #4mill up front then a further #2 mill, then another #2mill depending on appearances.

Bobby seems insistent on these hybrid transfer methods which must please the board, but will it mean us losing out on players when other clubs simply offer the asking price?

It also sounds horribly like the kind of deals we will have to offer to shift some of our 'United stars' that the Ronnie keeps mentioning...which can't be good if clubs are desperate enough to accept them, can it?

Robson goes to the market and offers Mr X two goats for his prize bull. Mr X accepts safe in the knowledge that his bull fires blanks!

TWO GOATS!!!!

That's disgraceful!! that's more than I offered Galaxy for Yelli.....

I`m not entertaining any offers that don`t include the parrot from PetSmart in Christchurch!!!(:o)
