Diet Coke- how long did it take you to break the addiction? All joking aside, took me longer than blow.

Took me seconds. I hate the stuff too much to ever get addicted

Once I decided I didn't want to ingest any more artificial sweeteners and junk like that, I quit drinking Diet Coke. It didn't take that long but my friend who quit her morning Mountain Dew had a hell of a time. No more diet or caffinated drinks for me. I'd love to quit soda all together, but that has been difficult.

I'd rather drink window cleaner. Diet Coke is horrible stuff.

I don't have an addiction to Diet Doke. I spend a lot of time thinking about this during the 18 hours that I am awake and drinking different cans of Diet Coke. I think about it when I dream about Diet Coke in my sleep, too. And when I run out of Diet Coke and hop into my car to run to the store to buy more, I break out in a cold sweat and I start shaking. I just have to think about Diet Coke and it helps me focus.
Seriously though, I drink quite a bit of Diet Coke. It is my - absolute- favorite drink ever made. The first thing that I put into my body in the morning is Diet Coke. I have no desire to break the addiction but I am sure I could do it.

yuck. I hate diet anything. now, sprite ...sprite is something I can't get enough of. that fizz, that lightness, the bubbles..aah refreshment. I've been drinking it for a year with no loss in interest.

Took me a good month. Rotten dry mouth. It was at about that time that I acquired my addiction to Extra sugarfree gum.

The headaches were something that took me by surprise. HORRIBLE, eyeball throbbing, head-splitting things -- the presence of which merely confirmed for me that Diet Coke was really doing something repulsive to my system, if my body would rebel like that when I made it go without.

Once I realized that my coke with lunch was the highlight of my day, I dropped it cold turkey. Still got the trembles, but justified it by thinking about the sheer amounts of sugar. Now I need to break the bbq chips habit, and it is a tougher monkey, I have to say

what do you mean, to break the addiction? why would I want to? I love diet coke. I grew up with all those sugar-free drinks (coffee without any sugar, diet-juices and so on) and diet coke is never behind. Diet Coke Is My Life.

Diet Coke? Blech...I don't know why it is that I can drink Tea with some form of artificial sweetener but I can't drink Diet anything.

Now when someone has a way to break my fast food addiction, I'll be all ears, erh...eyes.

I guess I fall into the same category as Amber (above). I was totally hooked on Diet Coke for about 10 years or so. Then, several months ago I was sick and tried drinking Sprite (regular, not diet). Though I've been recovered for a while now, Sprite is all I can seem to drink anymore. I tried some Diet Coke the other day and tasted like garbage!

As long as it took for my office to stop stocking it....

I can't stop. I used to have a Starbucks addiction but I gave that up because it was making me sick. I weaned myself off the Frappuccinos and onto Diet Coke. I usually get a 32oz. Diet Coke every morning before work. Most times it lasts until just about lunchtime, once in a while longer than that, and once in a while, it's gone by 9:30/10-ish (I start work at 8). I try to keep a 12-pack or a case for the afternoons, but I have been known to drink other sodas, or even occasionally a bottle of water! Go figure!

did I mention that I am not allowed to drink diet coke during weekdays, which means that only two days of the week I'm actually drinking it? but I drink in a weekend what a normal person would drink in a month, heh.

Boy, can I relate to not diet coke, but diet pepsi addiction, which would be more accurately caffeine addiction. I bought a case of 20 once bottles of jolt and went through it in 3 days. I can drink a 2 liter bottle of diet pepsi in an hour. I keep thinking about quitting. Alas, I am a nurse who works nights... HuaHuaville

Maybe it's because I'm a Libra, and therefore have to be on both sides of the proverbial fence, but I prefer Coke to Pepsi. I prefer Diet Pepsi to Diet Coke. Go figure. Given the choice, though, I'd take a Fresca anyday.

No. Do not talk of such things. I love my Diet Coke. I need it and it needs me. We are in love, and nothing you will ever do will ever seperate us.

i'm quite convinced that should i ever be in an accident and have a loss of blood, the paramedics need only hook me up to a DietCoke i.v. and i will fully recover.

It is in my blood.

I gave it up once for about 6 months... then I became an unhealthy person again. The Nutrasweet may kill brain cells, yes, but it's worth it not to have that horrid caffeine- deprivation headache.

To be honest, I used to drink litres of Diet Coke. It's friggin amazing. To be honest, I'm drinking some now.

HOWEVER. In NO way do I drink as much as I used to. At work on my breaks I used to buy Diet Coke, now I buy juice or Evian. At school I keep my Mount Franklin spring water nearby. I drink orange and mango juice when I get home in the afternoon from school. Admittedly, I have a major caffeine addiction I need to address, I drink too much coffee in the morning and too much in the evening. I drink coffee sometimes at work when I forget to bring money for juice or Evian. But Diet Coke is gone, gone, gone. I still like to drink it occasionally (note the drinking now?), but I've decided it's too bad for my body.

I'm FIFTEEN. I needed to stop goddammit :P

Oh wow. Great topic for me. The summer after I turned fourteen, I would stay in the basement on the computer all day, drinking only diet Coke and eating saltines. I lost like fifteen pounds. I broke the habit when school started, but now I've just turned eighteen and my summer job only has one diet type of soda, so the addiction's back.

But if you don't like diet coke, try diet A&W cream soda. That stuff is goooood.

See, the thing is: I'd drink all juice, all the time, if it weren't for the fructose and the calories.

That's the gorgeous thing about Diet Coke - splendiferous taste, no calories.

Hey, Wendy? I'm starting to think that you're me and I'm you, hon. Except for the whole Fresca thing -- I like Fresca and all, but man, I love my Diet Coke.

Sad, but true. At work I drink Diet Coke all day since it's free, then I go home and drink, like, another entire 6 pack. I even have a can by my bed at night while I sleep, in case I get thirsty at night. Sometimes on the weekends I have to go to the store every day because I've gone through another 12-pack.

Diet Coke, I'm your bitch. Please don't be too rough.

Wendy said: "Maybe it's because I'm a Libra, and therefore have to be on both sides of the proverbial fence, but I prefer Coke to Pepsi. I prefer Diet Pepsi to Diet Coke. Go figure."

Me, too--down to the astrology.

Though I have been trying to switch my habits from Coke and other sodas of all descriptions to water and tea. It's been three weeks, and I've been fairly good, helped in part by the worst Coke EVER (warmish, watery, sticky) when I slipped. I've also cut out my one or two a week alcoholic beverages.

I can't force myself to do what's right, I have to accidentally fall into a habit. I forgot to buy soda for a few days in a row and, well, didn't want to go out and take care of it once I got home. A few years ago I just stopped eating meat and refined sugar, etc., and that lasted for a long time (until a cruel friend brought over a bacon, egg and cheese McBiscuit with my name on it and forced it upon me). I've tried to resume this habit on purpose since and have failed each time because suddenly a big juicy steak appears to me in my dreams, a filet mignon wrapped in BACON...with a hot fudge sundae for dessert. I have the best intentions and I go out to eat with friends and there's nothing that is both vegetarian and non-repulsive (I don't like raw vegetables much, and I don't like most condiments, which would include dressing, so most salads are out). But I digress.

Diet Coke means nothing to me. Coke was my master. Please cure me of my fast food problem. Some days I think I'd *almost* sell my soul for a side order of o-rings.

I had no idea that there were so many people with the same addiction! I'm 22 years old and I'vw been drinking diet coke for about 8 years, but it has never been so bad! I drink a MINIMUM of 2 liters a day. I too have to have a glass of it on my night stand when I go to bed. I won't even attempt to get in the car for a ride thats more than 10 minutes if I don't have a can or bottle with me. I have to say, its the ONLY drink I ever consume other than the occasional coffee or alcoholic beverage. I just recently started hearing the news about all the side effects that diet coke and the apspertame in it causes. I think I may be experiencing some. I have for years now been experienceing numbness all over my body. Ever morning when I wake up, for sure one of my arms or legs arenumb. My fingers go numb while i hold the steering wheel of my car, or even a cigarette. If i sit indian style for more than 1 minute, I'm practically paralysed. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? PLease write to me if you have.
