Quotably Quoted #42

The code IS broken. We DID start too late. And Dilbert IS a documentary.

Nice diversionary tactic, Decker. Let's not talk about Y2K, let's talk about those who have been talking about Y2K. Ditto, BD.

-- Lane Core Jr. (elcore@sgi.net), October 12, 1999.

Now, this is funny - doomers accusing the historically-proven correct of "diversionary tactics."

Vindicated Regards,
Andy Ray

Well, well, look who is back. AR, I foolishly thought we were rid of you. But you missed us. I am touched.

Lipton was always one of the funniest yourdum shills, see here (The incomparable Russ Lipton). A tidy little summation of some of the funniest/stupid things that shill said on stinkbomb.

Elaine Cordump on the other hand....snicker snicker....

The most interesting thing about the thread Andy Ray is quoting from is that it starts with Ken Decker unintentionally admitting that "doomers" weren't worried about TEOTWAWKI later in 1999.

"The Changing Y2K Argument"

Really? My interpretation is much different... although I have the disadvantage of actually being the author. In 1999, the serious "doomers" had reached a conclusion. When we started missing the "critical" dates, the iron triangle argument started to look pretty silly. The "collapse at the stroke of midnight" morphed into a slow, grinding descent into an earlier century. Oh, the "doomers" always knew we were going to Hell in a handbasket... they just changed their minds about how quickly we would descend.

-- Ken Decker (kcdecker@att.net), July 03, 2000.

The reason the doomzies changed their argument was because they got tired of being WRONG with the "trigger date" predictions. I think a light went on, at least in part, and they began to realize

"oh sh*t...these pollies might actually wind up being right...I better start weaseling now without changing too much in my position, after all I don't want to get the big "jackboot" from the "censor&delete gang"

The only thing worse than a moron is a moron that disappears after they should take their lumps. But hey....assholes will be assholes.

(can I say "asshole"?)

AR,

You didn't to use the word "meme" or "memetic", please don't repeat that lapse again.
