Resistance Welding copper to bronze

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Resistance Welding : One Thread

We have a project where I need resistance welding a 0.3mm x 0.3mm 90%Sn10%Pb-solder sheathed copper wire to a 0.6mm thick tin plated CuSn-bronze. Does anybody have any info on welding profile? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks Rainer Hofmann

Mr Hofmann, A couple of methods that have been successful with this type of material are Capacitor discharge, Mid-Frequency, and just plain old AC type of resistance welding using a Tungsten or Molybdenum faced electrode. The refractory type electrode facing will deter the pick- up of the solder and copper to the electrodes itself. It requires a little longer weld times than is seen with common steels of the same thickness, but still quite obtainable. The site of www.cmwinc.com is a manufacturer of electrodes and refractory type materials. I would hope that you could find some more answers there, if not email me and I will give you some additional locations.
