Somewhat techy question about webcam software

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Xeney : One Thread

There's been some talk of webcams here lately, so I thought I'd ask my question, since searching hasn't found me any answers.

I would really like a piece of webcam software that not only takes a picture at regular intervals and uploads it, but saves it with a unique name (pic1, pic2, pic3, something like that) in a local directory, so I have a record of all the pictures that have been taken.

Even a separate utility that grabs the picture off my website every upload interval and saves it locally with a unique name would be fine.

There must be something that can do this kind of thing - does anyone know of any software I can try? I've looked in the obvious places like download.com.

TIA!

- Annette

Have a look at Webcam32 - I think that'll do everything you need.

If you have a Mac, I love Cool Cam.

ChillCamftps the picture to your site and does local saves quite nicely. It also has nifty filter effects.

Separate picture grabbing utilities exist as well. If you can get your hands on a copy of LiveGrab, do so, but it's no longer available for the most part. AloeCam is another nice one.

I like KABcam. It's nothing fancy, but it captures an image, uploads it, archives the rest, yadda yadda. It's also super cheap, which my budget likes. It's an all around good product.
