Nikon Coolpix 990, Please Respond

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hi,

I was wondering if the Nikon Coolpix 990 has the ability to take a certain number of consecutive shots? I do not know the technical term for it, but I've seen some digital cameras that can take a certain number of shots per second or something. Can someone give me the details about that on the Nikon?

Any response much appreciated. Thanks.

Kirsten

I just picked up the 990. So far, I found it to be a significant inprovement over my 950 and an overall cool piece of hardware. The 990 cycles throught about 2 shots per second. It also has a special High Speed mode that takes 30 320x240 frames a second for up to 80 frames. The resolution is kicked down to store more frames in the camera's 32mb of onboard sdram. The quality also gets knocked down some to use less memory per shot. The 990 will also take brief (40 second) QuickTime movies at 15 frames per second. I hope this helps. In addition to numerous links on the web, PC PHoto and Digital Foto magazines both did review of the 990. Both said the 990 was an excellent, feature rich unit. I will tell you that most places are discouting too deeply at this point as supply isn't keeping up with demand. Good luck.

The 990 also has a feature called BSS for Best-Shot Selection by which the camera will take up to 10 consecutive frames as long as the shutter release is held down, then the images are compared and the sharpest one will be stored. External flash with strobe will also let you shoot action shot like golf swing or the like but you need the set up in the dark with dark background for best effect.
