Hey I just wanted to know if anybody knew of any books about people working in the ER. It doesn't have to do with the show ER but with any ER. I've looked everywhere but all I could find was one book called Emergency Room, by Caroline B. Cooney, and it was like a 4th grade reading level. I am looking for a more adult book.

Echo Heron is a nurse who also writes books. She's got two books out dealing with different parts of the hospital. She talks about her rotations, one of which I believe was in the ER. Both of her books are very informative and very realistic. I'd recommend her books to anyone who's interested in the medical field--fact or fiction. The same goes for Robin Cook--he's an MD in real life, but he decided that he'd devote his career to writing. His books are excellent.

There is a book by Michael Chritan called "5 Patients". Some story lines from ER are based on the actual people in the book. He went to a hospital and wrote about patients. That is what inspired him to create ER. In my opinion, its pretty good, long though.

Another good 'hospital drama' novel (ironically it is also by ER Co-Creator Michael Crichton) is "A Case of Need". It's old though - copyright 1968. A few others are "To Kill a Doctor" and "Deadly Medicine" by Leonard S. Goldberg and "The Year of the Intern" and "Mindbend" by Robin Cook. Enjoy!

I just got a book a couple days ago called The Medicine of ER; or, How We Almost Die. its by Alan Duncan Ross and Harlan Gibbs. I've only read about half of it, but it is pretty interesting. Some of it is on real life ERs, but a lot of it is on how true to life the show is.

I just recently read a book called "Julia's Mother" by William Bonadio M.D. Although the book went into some detail about his training, it did discuss many of his experiences as an attending in a pediatric ER, including the event that inspired the title. I thought it was an excellent book.

Well, there's this series for...teens I suppose. Well, they're published by Scholastic... The series is called Med Center. 6 books I've read so far. The author is Diane Hoh. The books, in order, are: Virus, Flood, Fire, Blast, Blizzard, Poison. Each of them are about a disaster, and the main characters are teens volunteering (and working) at a famous hospital in the ER mostly, and as a paramedic. As for the stories, they're alright, just a fun read. But it's not that adultish, I must warn you. Oh and A Case of Need by Michael Crichton/Jeffrey Hudson is one of my favourites. Absolutely one of my favs. Echo Heron is a good author too. Um...this author doesn't write specifically stories that take place in an ER, but she writes medical suspense novels that are really good. Tess Gerritsen is really good.
