Insect Photography

Does anyone have any recommendations for what digital cameras are best for taking pictures of still or slow-moving insects? I'm trying to document the life stages of a particular insect (1-10 mm) and wasn't sure if any d.c.'s in the $500 - $1500 range would work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dan
