FORT LAUDERDALE - Despite the good grades on their report cards, more than 3,000 Broward County high school students were ordered to summer school because of a computer glitch.

School officials were bombarded with calls earlier this week by students and parents who saw As and Bs on the report cards, but a message at the bottom reading, "retained, summer school mandatory."

The 3,153 students actually all had been promoted. The glitch occurred when new computer software failed to count the students' earned credits.

"We are working with every school to help notify parents, and to make sure everybody knows what happened," said Jo Kirkman, technology director for Broward schools.
