Faster Sign-up System

greenspun.com : LUSENET : New England Motocross Racing : One Thread

I know sign-up seems to take forever on some days which can add to the delay of starting practice and commencing the days events. I know they currently use computer, but it does not seem effecient.

Yesterday, while at the GHO (golf tounament) I came across Steve Borace a represenetive of "Con-Net Systems" in New Jersey. He was inputing data of people and putting on credit card with their picture on front if wanted. They set-up for missing children - if your child is missing - the info on the card can be output by the police department. So I thought, we can use this for mx sign-up and point systems.

He had a data base system with software that would ... after initial info entered - could make sign-up a 2 minute venture.

Here's how it works. 1) First you set-up pre-determined rider fields with name, number, address, insurance card #, bike info and frame number. Most info can be done when the rider joins the organization.

2) The info is embedded onto card - this is exactly like credit card. When you come to sign-up your card is swiped and info is updated to days' event at which time a second screen would appear and list classes. The person would simply check the classes you are riding and a total amount would be displayed.

3) The info then could then be sorted into classes, heats, points or whatever is needed. Even a birthday list for the announcer.

4) For race results - you imput rider #'s from checker sheets and computer updates finishing order-- could also set-up to list points earned and update riders profile in database.

5) The main drawback I see is rider resposnability to update "rider info ... frame numbers, insurance or address change"

I have the numbers to call and talk with these guys. They would provide the software and training.

Give me some response and I will print out copy to provide the N.E.S.C. committee you

That,s one of the ideas i've heard yet. One thing I think everyone can agree on is that things can be done to speed up the most miserable parts of the day. It seems like they don't want to spend the $$$$ to make the riders happier, when it's the riders who make the whole day HAPPEN(EXIST), ETC.!!!!!!

That's my 2 cents Tim

Just remember that when the system speeds up -- well there are still two of the nations great mx photographers there for you. lo

FASTER SIGN -UP DOESN'T PREVENT PRACTICE FROM STARTING AT 8 - 8:30. LIKE I SAID IN ANOTHER REPLY, 20 MINUTE SESSIONS , JUST LIKE THE AMA DOES IT OPEN PRACTICE ! NOVICES AND AMATURES 3-4 LAP WAVES, GET BACK IN LINE FOR MORE IF YOU WANT. THATS WHEN AND HOW IT CAN BE DONE. THE SIGN UP CREW DOESN'T RUN THE PRACTICE, IF YOU DON'T PRE-ENTER THEN YOU LOSE OUT BY STANDING IN LINE. LET THEM HAVE A SHORT SESSION FOR THE LATE ENTRIES, WHO CARES IF A FEW SNEAK OUT TWICE! GOT TO START EARLIER.

Hi Pierre. Just another idea for you. I ran a road race Thanksgiving day and they put a transmittor on your sneaker and a computer keeps track of your finish. It seems like something they could use to say what place you come in, your points, etc. You wouldn't need as many score keepers. Less mistakes.
