Jesu Joy Of Man's Desiring AKA Ode To Joy It is what I long to rise to.

Actually, Doug, Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring and Ode to Joy are two different songs. Both very beautiful. You often hear the former at Christmas time.

Like Doug, I tend to find meaning in instrumental works (discounting the "Freude, schone Gotterfunken" in Ode to Joy). Probably easier to ascribe appopriate meaning to ambiguous stimuli (but that's just the analytical neuropsychologist in me talking. Ignore him, he'll go away).

A piece that I find especially representative is Barber's "Adagio for Strings". There's something in the way that it works so slowly, having to stop, and start over again and again, each time building more and more on to itself, trying a new variation, a new tactic, that resonates with me. I guess that I draw inpiration from the fact that it builds to one of the sweetest, most triumphant climaxes that I have ever heard, and solace in its continuing beyond that climax, letting itself slide gently to a resolution of quiet contentment, rather than burning out on the strength of its epiphany.

I just wish I were further along the score.

Omarkaz - my ignorance of language is worse probably than my lack of expertise in music. I will try to find Barber's "Adagio For Strings," and give a listen.

'Come for me' by 'Threnody'. From start to finish... Or 'Wait for sleep' by 'Dreamtheater'.
