Zahovic or Koller

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

The Journal reports that one of these two is our infamous mystery striker.

Koller at 6'7" has an impressive scoring record and is the target man Shearer needs, but I'm not too keen on him for some unknown reason (Other than he looks like Stam)

Sahovic looks like a more creative player whom Robson signed when he was in Portugal I believe. Not the target man Shearer needs but could Shearer adapt.

Either would cost #6-8 mill. Spending over for the summer after that?

I like Zahovic but I don't think he's a premiership player (too much like Maric was!!)....I think Koller would be a big hit...

My money is on Koller....

If we sign Koller will big Al become little Al?

The words flash and pan come to mind. So does Karel Poborsky (and sadly, Silvio Maric). I would hope that YBR has enough experience to take far more into account than a couple of good games in a major tournament.

If he's been watching Koller for some time, this might be a better bet thab Zahovic who seems to have appeared on the scene quite recently - no doubt fuelled by some eager agent.

He remained Big Al after we got the much bigger Big Dunc so I reckon that Big Al will remain. (-;

Do we want to buy one of the six best players in the world or the new Duncan Bloody Ferguson? Do we want to buy the guy who was the top scorer in the Champions' League groups stages the season before last, playing from midfield (hardly emerging from nowhere, Screacher), or do we want a guy who is going to encourage us to hoof the ball at him from all angles? Unfortunately ZZ doesn't fancy England, so we probably have no chance of getting him. But Shearer + Koller = no movement + long ball game. I bloody weep.

I understand what you're saying Dan and I do remember that you've been championing his cause long before his appearances in Euro 2000 but personally I just think that his game wouldn't suit the premiership and I'm really loathe to have another Maric on our books...

As you say it's all a pointless conversation since he doesn't fancy the PL....

Chronicle says Koller links are well wide of the mark.

Robson wants pace up front to complement Shearer.

Thank the Lord for that input, Pilgrim. You've cheered me up no end.

Pressed 'enter' before I was finished - sort of 'premature insertion' if you'll pardon the expression.
I can't stand the thought of persevering with two less than mobile CF's.
I tend to agree that Zahovic would be a big gamble in the PL - he seems to have very suspect temperament, and could be trouble with a capital T. However, he's an extremely talented player, and at the right price - no more than #4mm - it might be worth taking a chance. I suspect he will move for a lot more than that.
BR knows Zahovic from his days at Porto - I believe he actually signed him - so I'll be happy to trust Bobby's judegement on the man.

It seems the Ronnie is in the know regarding the secret striker ('SS'), and sworn to keep their traps firmly shut.
They say tonight that reports regarding BR's interest in Jan Koller are well wide of the mark - as BR wants someone with pace to play alongside AS. SS has apparently been playing in Euro2000 - exit Michael Bridges stage right. They also say that BR was been hoping SS wouldn't set Euro2000 on fire in case the price shot up - so it's safe to say that it's not Kluivert, Nuno Gomes or ZZ!!
So, who the hell is it? My guess is ......... Nicholas Anelka, Roy Mackaay, Joa Pinto.

The Ronnie like to think they're in the know but we know there is only one ITK! ;-) Seriously, they chuck so many names around that they have to hit lucky sometime so then claim an exclusive "you heard it here first"!
