U.S. ANNEXATION OF CUBA

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

Please, I am mucho tired after weeks of daily, trying to find information about the Treaty the U.S. made with Cuba. I am seeking to find the original Treaty, it may have had repercusssions that haunt us, many moons later. I think it was called the "Treaty of Paris", may have involved the "Foracker Act" (1900). Somehow, the Patty Hearst thing got involved. Bottom line, where can I read that treaty? Will you help?

Need Some -- Just out of curiosity, why do you think a 1900 treaty with Cuba would have any relevance to anything today? Sounds (to my skeptical, legal mind) like a lot of the tax nut stuff. You didnt read something about this on the Internet and believe it, did you? Some sort of crap to the effect that since treaties are the supreme law of the land and we have some sort of 100 year old treaty with Cuba promising cooperation, so theyre now entitled to your first born male child? I can assure you that whatever you read, it is BS. After all, the Cuban government of the 1900s is long gone, which would nullify any treaty we had with it.

Need some -- a follow up. The "Treaty of Paris" relates only to the French and Indian Wars; it was signed in 1763.

The only Web reference I can find to the Foracker Act is the following:

http://www.lexjuris.com/LEXLEX/lexotras/lexleyforaker.htm

But, it's in Spanish, and I only know a limited amount of Spanish. It seems, however, to have little to do with Cuba. Rather, it seems to be one of the enabling acts for Puerto Rico.

So, whatever your listening to on this subject is unquestionably pure BS.

Porter, you are starting to crack me up. You are so full of yourself, that you will answer an idiot troll post, hoping to take a shot at somebody that you hope is a "taxnut". How many clues do you need, genius? But at least your spelling was correct this time.

-- KoFE (Your@town.USA), June 29, 2000.

Now come on, KoFe, I just mentioned tax nuts in passing. Truth be told, this one sounds like the "New World Order" type of nuts. I actually answered it, because I am interested in history, including the history of Cuba and it's occupation after the Spanish-American War of 1898, and I was curious where the poster was coming from on this one.

And, yes, my spelling has been poor since I was a kid. Probably too late to reform now. Guess you'll just have to like with it.

-- E.H. Porter (Just Wondering@About.it), June 29, 2000.

Oops, my mistake. I re-read your post. Bad grammer, and spelling.

-- KoFE (your@town.USA), June 29, 2000.

KoFE,

Far be it from me to rain on your parade, but maybe next time when you're being the spelling police you might want to try using a spell checker yourself.

As a hint, the first word to check would be "grammer".

Whatever Frank. Chime in all you want. I'm not perfect either, but if you are hunting for issues that you can ridicule other people for, you're gonna have to hear about it, too. My beef is with Porter, the twenty year lawyer, who doesn't know the tax code, but he-haws with his other ignorant friends about people who know their being oppressed and defrauded, but haven't the resources to properly make their case.

-- KoFE (your@town.USA), June 29, 2000.

They're. So there.

-- KoFE (your@town.USA), June 29, 2000.

KoFE:

OK; explain where they are fits into a previous post.

Thanks,,,,,

"people who know they're being oppressed"

KoFE:

Now I see. I am not one to deal with these things if I understand the meaning.

Well! Jesus L. Christ! I am doing research for my job. (not ambulance chasing).I thought I might find a learned soul here, guess I was wrong Some folks need to know History, in order to comprehend the present. Excuse me for asking, guess I will look elsewhere. You ungracious Morons.

Sorry that no one could come through for you.(ungracious moron.)

Z, you are very wrong. I am only trying to do my best for my country, mine is the U.S., what is your country? Aren't you in France or one of the Euorpean Countries? I think I remember your handle, over two years. Come back....

-- Need Some (help@here.com), June 29, 2000.

Need some -- well, sorry. Tried to help, but thought your question was a little weird and certainly non-specific. If you want to know what treaties the US has currently with Cuba (or anyone else), the government publishes a volume entitled "Treaties in Force" which can be found at most government depository and law libraries. I've seen reference to it on the 'net; search "treaties in force" -- a URL I have (don't know how current) is: http://www.state.gov/www/global/legal_affairs/tifindex.html

Good luck -- and, since you seem to be interested in history, keep in mind that in 1900 the US had just taken Cuba away from Spain, so any treaty at that time might well involve Spain.

Here you go:

Treaty Between the United States of America and Cuba; May 29, 1934

Enjoy.

-- (hmm@hmm.hmm), June 29, 2000.

Also, it looks like The Treaty Of Paris of 1763 does mention Cuba, in that Britain was supposed to give Cuba back to Spain as part of the treaty. Of course, this was before there really was a U.S.

-- (hmm@hmm.hmm), June 29, 2000.

Hey! Good research there, hummm! I'd always wondered about how our occupation of Guantanamo worked; apparently we get to keep it forever as long as we occupy it. Cordell Hull always did negotiate a mean treaty. How did you locate this resource?

I'm not, however, sure if this answers Need Some's original question, particularly the part about "somehow, the Patty Hearst thing got involved." But, I at least appreciate your efforts.

Yep, I am from one of those European countries. Of course, my ancestors came to North America in 1627 and have been here since then. They did things like found Harvard and Yale. At present, I live in Missouri [as anyone who has been on this forum for the years that I have, knows; Dan'l Boones place is just down the road]. This was once part of France, but I think that has changed. I leave for Tejas on Friday night. I think that is still in the US. Will return for the 4th.

Thanks to those who offered kind words to my question. At the risk of losing my job, because I question too much and not old enough to know everything, I pose this question to you: Other Countries, tie up your mouths, and may Hell and Damnination fall on your heads if you seek to deter a seeker. Down in Cuba, there are cubans who come to work in a daily basis at the Navy Base. Somebody, somewhere, wrote that they are entitled to U.S. medical (tax provided) care for next to a nothing cost. While your U.S. Grandmother cannot pay for her own medicine costs, and goes without. I have seen it. I won't even touch upon the nice dental care that is provided while you or your Grandmother must go haggle-tooth. This isn't right! You can try to dismiss this post, all you may. But Heaven willing, the truth will never be silenced.

-- Need Some (help@here.com), June 29, 2000.

I usually use Metacrawler for web searches.

As for the Patty Hearst thing, I didn't even touch that one. This person wanted the U.S./Cuba Treaty, so that's what I gave them. LOL.

By-the-by Need some:

I was born in the USA, and have lived my life here. If you want to compare relatives, you will lose. I go back too far. I have a pile of original letter from Jefferson and Franklin [well preserved] in a deposit box that would blow your mind. Not to mention the stuff that we have in the museum at Harvard. Well enough said about your slight.

Best wishes,,,,

So what Z? You have all those nice families in a row. Are you willing to take on a "wrong?". Your Call...

-- need Some (help@here.com), June 29, 2000.

Personally, I think Need Some is either related to Al-d or went to the same English Composition class with him.

And -- KoFe -- see, I told you he was a little (if not a lot) off the wall!

E.H., you are questioned on this subject, which did not bore fruitacion?. Per chance, have you ever been wrong about anything, in in your minds eye. Just asking.....

Dirt Dopper -- Yes.
